Do you know of any MP3 players that allow you to put songs on it without controlling the process.
I have a Samsung that enters the MP3's in their own categories and I find it very difficult to get pieces entered in the right order, and without them selecting every category for the entered song. I tried putting Pablo Casals Cello Suites on it today and couldn't get them entered in the correct order. I renamed them several times, used the Samsung software and also just installed them through Windows Explorer, but no luck.
Is there a preferred MP3 that has a simpler more user friendly loading process.

To me, the Sandisk Sansa series works very well. Also, Philips GoGear has a folder view so it looks just like the folders in Windows Explorer. It will also arrange by artist and album and so forth - but if you have your files in a particular order in a folder, it will let you look at them just like that as well from the player itself. Sansa does not do this.
BTW, we bought the Philips in place of a Samsung - which I agree is wonky to use.

Do not use Archos. I never thought I would say that, but I've had such problems with my Archos that I am not recommending them to anyone any more.  Gary
I'm blessed watching God do what He does best. I've had a few rough years, and I'm still not back to where I want to be, but I'm on the way and things are looking far better now than what they were!

I looked at the PhilipsGoGear on Amazon and it looked to be easier than my Samsung to load in the order you want.

If you number your files in order (01 songname, 02 songname), that may put them in the right order for the mp3 player. There may be an option to play an entire folder. If so, the songs should play in the right order.

I have an iPod Touch which works amazingly. You can make playlists, you can play songs follow a predetermined order or have them play at random. Best of all: you can make playlists on the fly thanks to the superb touch-interface. It also is a powerful handheld computer (with wifi) and a heck of a lot of fun to play with. Prices for the iPod Touch have dropped considerably.

I find on my iPod and any other MP3 players I use that it's important for the track field in the MP3 tag (which is saved with the file) to be filled out. As long as the files have been tagged properly, I've not had any problems playing in order. So if the tracks are tagged in order (1,2,3,etc), then the player should play that album in order. If they aren't tagged, I'm guessing that it's going to do it alphabetically.
You could also look at creating a playlist (don't know if your unit supports that), but the playlist should play in the order you specify.
Also, make sure you don't accidentally have random play turned on.

I still like my Creative Zen Better graphics for videos and accepts sd cards. Puts things alphabetical though, so name them in order. Or make playlists.. http://www.creative.com/products/mp3/zen-mx/

Hello All,
While we're on the subject of MP3 players-
I bought a cheap one for about $18 and it does the job, except there is a small problem with it. Between each song, I have about 5 seconds of dead air. But let's say that I want to take a longer break. I have to press the on/off button on the player and when I do there's always a loud boom when it shuts down. Same thing when I turn it back on. My solution is of course to pot down the volume on my PA beforehand, but I don't always remember to do so and the boom becomes annoying.
Is this just the result of just buying a cheap player or something I did when downloading my songs?
Thanks for any advice.

This is pretty standard on a whole lot of devices at any price point.
You are removing power from a device which is connected to a live amplifier. The addition or removal of power may not, usually isn't, quiet, and it's going to cause the boom.
Turn the amp down every time.

Perhaps the greatest feature I like about the Sanza Fuze is the ability to increase its memory. I don't like th eidea of paying a premium as one would with an iPod and then only to be limited to the amount of onboard memory. With today's expanding need for memory this is a feature that works for my expectations. Plus, the Fuze I had was played almost continuously over the past three years. Plus, it has been dropped, thrown, you name it. It is one tough player. Another feature I like about it is the battery life between charges. I was able to get as much as 22 hours of audio playing time on one charge!
Because I run everything through Windows Explorer to load into the Fuze, I set up my categories within the file's properties so that it lines up with where I want to be filed on the player. It does have a default set of folders installed that are managed by file extensions. But, I do put sub folders into the appropriate parent folders and it runs smoothly.

Thanks for the comments on MP3 players. I ordered the Sandisk Sansa clip 2GB for $36.49 on Amazon (free shipping). I will still work getting my cello suites into my Samsung with renumbering. However, it seems to disregard my numbering and put the entire tag with all the details from the original MP3 into my player.

I tried renumbering again and no success. I used WinExplorer but WinMedia Player isn't compatible with the Samsung. I am giving up on this MP3 player and eager to get my new one.

I was suggesting you change the tags using WinMediaPlayer, then after doing so you should be able to use whatever previous method you used to get the files to the Samsung.
I gather from your posts that the Samsung is using the tags to organize the songs.

Hi Gary. Sorry about your experience with Archos. We bought a refurbished one and it has served us very well. I think that it is probably more than 5 years old although we've only had it for a year and a half. We bought it because the buttons are easy to find on the gig and it has a 20GB HD. It's the Jukebox model. It's battery powered but we always run it off ac. I think JR Electronics was where we bought it. We also have a Sandisk Sansa, but I can't seem to use the controls on it while out on a gig. FWIW
