Hi
I thought that MAC was better thant PC in terms of Multimedia and so on in MUSIC. I have many problems in the quality of sounds with my MAcBOOK with randomly noises (Popping, Click etc). I tried an old version of BIAB MAC (12) and the sound (MIDI) is less better than the PC version. Does someone have solutions or ideas....? Thanks

Hi,
So this a problem that's happening with Band-in-a-Box version 12, when using Quicktime instruments as your MIDI output? What kind of Mac is it, and which OS?

Hi,
I recall an issue with some versions of Airport that affected real-time audio applications (Band-in-a-Box as well as other software) causing poor sound quality like that. One solution was to disable Airport while using Band-in-a-Box.
Anyways, I don't believe this issue has ever come up with the intel versions of Band-in-a-Box (2009 and higher) - it is most likely only with older PowerPC applications.

Generally, the Mac is more versed in multimedia and music. All the studios I know run ProTools on Macs, and most graphic design companies whom I have contacts with are generally Mac based. First, we need to know the model of the Mac. And the system version. And the version of Quicktime (which we can infer from the version of OS X you are running). If you go to the Apple menu and then do About This Mac, it will tell you the system version. Then if you go into More Info... from that screen, you can see the Hardware thing which will tell you what Mac you have. In my case on this Mac, it says: Model Name: iMac Model Identifier: iMac5,1 Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 2 L2 Cache: 4 MB Memory: 3 GB Bus Speed: 667 MHz Also, are you using the built in sound? Through the computers speakers? Line out? Quote:

System what? 10.5? 10.6?
I haven't heard of the need for antipop or anything like that in 10.6....

Look at the antipop website. I think i'm not alone with this problem... I have the latest version of snow leopard. Under BIAB 12 even the midi instruments are really very bad. The accoustic bass is unbearable I hope that with the recent version there is no problem with MIDI quality instruments.

I don't know about the Mac, but I do know that a number of PC laptops have had popping issues that resulted from the the wireless network card. I know on a number of systems, just disabling 802.11a fixed the problem (which shouldn't cause too much consternation, since most places are either 802.11b, 802.11g, or 802.11-draft N.
Just a thought.

I've been running Mac BIAB 2009.5 and (as of yesterday when it arrived) Mac BIAB 2010 on a two or three-year-old MacBook Pro 2.16 Core Duo with system 10.6.3 and 2GB RAM (I'd upgrade the RAM, but 2GB is max for this model). No problems with pops or clicks with BIAB when playing styles based on RealTracks. I do find that if I select the Apple DLS synth instead of the Core Midi driver, and play a style that uses both RealTracks and midi, playback of the midi tracks can stutter a bit with occasional pop or clicks -- seems like the processer doesn't like to deal with DLS and RealTracks at the same time. I haven't noticed this when relying on an external midi synth playing back via Core MIDI. And I didn't notice it when using Bandstand and Core Midi along with RealTracks -- though I've stopped using Bandstand because of compatibility issues with Snow Leopard.
As an aside: I also noticed a lot of popping -- much worse than the RealTracks/DLS synth issue -- when using Windows BIAB 2009 on this same Mac, running the Win version via Parallels. Numerous inquiries to Parallels' tech support failed to resolve the issue, so I switched to VM Fusion, imported the same virtual machine from Parallels into Fusion, and the popping problem went away. Now that I have the latest Mac version of BIAB, I probably won't be using the Windows one much. It's just a lot easier to run the Mac version on a Mac (despite the lack of a decent, Mac-compatible GM software synth, for which I can't blame PG. But it does leave me either putting up with stuttering and tinny DLS sounds; GarageBand/Logic sounds that don't cover all the GM bases; or toting around a Ketron SD2 along with my laptop... all things I can live with, given all the other advantages of the new Mac version of BIAB, including the DAW plug-in.)

Um, I suggest using Applecare (and you do have it right?) and taking your laptop in to have them fix it. I'd say that you have something wrong with it. I have never heard of widespread problems that are like yours. If it was, like perhaps the recent graphics card issues with 27" iMacs, or the racing of CPUs in Mac Pros, it would have cropped up somewhere. It hasn't as far as I see. Have you gone to support.apple.com with this? Perhaps searched it there? Quote:

Can I use a VST like Kontakt with BIAB 2010 for MAC? Because there's a great GM set from Sonic Reality that I would like to use with either Kontakt VST or SampleTank VST for Mac? Anybody know where we currently stand on "outside sounds?" I also read I may be able to use Quicktime to create SoundFont files that I could use in BIAB 2010 on my intel mac? Thanks in advance to anyone with an answer here!

I believe you can use VSTs or AUs with BiaB, but I believe you lose the ability to use Real Tracks.....Am I wrong on this? You can google the SoundFont creation with Quicktime....seems like more work than it is worth Quote:
