If you don't have it (or the full-blown Dimension Pro), this is likely one of those no-brainer purchases for many folks. If you're still not sure, check out the sound examples. Includes the Garritan Pocket Orchestra.

This may be a dumb question but, Can this be used with BIAB, PT and Realband?

I think it would work fine in PT and RB, but not well in BIAB.

If you want a decent BIAB solution, check out the IK Multimedia Xpansion Tank 2 group buy. Now 4 for the price of 1 ($49). I jumped on it because I already had a few ExpansionTank sounds and always liked them. My choices for this were Omnisynth 2, Acoustic Drums 2, and Symphony Strings. I haven't decided on title 4...maybe Vintage Keyboards. With more sales they will add title 5. If you buy from Esoundz (I did), you'll get some bonus product at the end of the month.

So far, I like what I've heard. I was surprised that Omnisynth has a program change script that's easy to load and edit (via notepad). It automatically loads up the correct GM instrument based on the BIAB song. You just load up sampletank, click program change, open the GM program change file, and press play on BIAB. It doesn't always work perfectly, for some reason, but it's a lot better than having to load a preset for each song.

Oh yeah, no more Sampletank LE...it gives you the real version now!

I have the set that came with my copy of Sonar HS a couple of years ago. I like the piano/keyboard/organ and bass guitars. However, the combinations used in the strings and woodwinds really are not applicable to my world of arrangement. It does come with a lot of what I call "Off road" sound effects. If you are super creative you may be able to use one or two. Again, I have not been able to fit them in my writing style.

As for working in BIAB, my experience says NO. There is something about the two companies that make it non-compatible with BIAB or RB for that matter. How I work it is create the music in BIAB, and export to Sonar and add any tweaking there whether to the existing MIDI tracks created in BIAB or add new ones in Sonar.

Hope that helps,

RickeG

Don,

Have you tried either one in RB yet? Are you sure you have the correct VSTi port selected, along with the VSTi in a RB track? The demos I listened to sounded very nice !! I am just trying to see if you have it set up correctly there.

I don't think they will work in Biab. You will need to set up each track with its own VSTi and you can't do that in Biab. You will need to use PT or RB for VSTi's.

Here is short demo of Dimension LE set up.

Thanks Trax,

I may have hollered per soon as I'm prone to do.

I did try it in RealBand and it worked to a point.

Guess I'll have to read the directions.

I tried the omnisynth on Rb and it crapped out big time, the GUi of ST just flashes and studders and will not play right. I can still load individual instruments. Anyone figure this out?
