Hello All;
I ordered an M-Audio Fast Track Pro 4x4 USB because I wanted to experiment with PC based recording. I ordered the hardware knowing that it would take a few weeks for it to arrive. I have just received the following email from the music store where I purchased the hardware:
“Sorry there is such a delay on your order, but it is a supplier problem. Currently we have 288 on order for the chain, so we're waiting everywhere. There are none available at any of our Ontario stores. Unfortunately I can't offer any ETA at this point since M-Audio has gone through a massive change due to being purchased by Avid. Is there anything else that you would consider?”
I’m wondering if someone could recommend an alternative to the Fast Track. I chose the Fast Track because I read that M-Audio had reasonable driver support and worked with PowerTracks. The Fast Track would allow me to record 2 mics or a mic and guitar simultaneously. I also read that some people are using the Fast Track as their PC’s sound card (I believe only for midi) and that it sounds pretty good.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like you're dealing with Long and McQuade. M-Audio was bought out by Avid a couple of years ago. What you might consider would be something like this: http://www.pgmusic.com/ua1g.htmand a mixer like this: http://www.long-mcquade.com/products/258...2_Bus_Mixer.htmThis will give you a USB I/O device and a mixer where you can add your mic and your guitar input. You won't be able to record two different tracks at the same time, but you wouldn't be able to do that with the 4X4 anyway, unless one of your inputs is the S/PDIF input. Good lucky in figuring this all out. Gary
I'm blessed watching God do what He does best. I've had a few rough years, and I'm still not back to where I want to be, but I'm on the way and things are looking far better now than what they were!

Thanks for the quick responses. Yes, Long and McQuade (and I should note that they have treated me fairly throughout the years).
I would like to sing with a friend and record live and I was hoping to hook up two mics. I have a question about the UA-1G:
If I run two mics from the mixer (panned left and right) into the RCA inputs on the side of the UA-1G, could I record a stereo track in PT? (The idea being that I would split the track into two mono tracks later.)
Would you say that I would get a similar sound quality from the UA-1G as I would from the FastTrack?
Part of me likes the price. The other part is worried that it won’t let me do what I want.
Thanks.

Yes what you described should work. There is a way, however to record to two mono tracks to begin with (avoids having to split them later).
I think the UA-1G should have pretty good convertors, so one *may* be a little better than the other, but not by much. Plus like your experience with Long and McQuade, buying from PGMusic is also rewarding those who treat customers right.
To get those two tracks to mono to begin with requires three things. 1.The signal has to be L & R to begin with. 2. In Audio Preferences set the 'mono input select' to "Both L&R" 3. When you arm a track to record to, select Audio-Mono as the track type (right click track name area - select type).
Both PT and RB will then record both the left and right channel and put the left channel on the highlited track and also put the right channel on the next available blank track (as a second mono track).
The more ya know!
