In Band-in-a box, I want to record on to the audio track, but I have two problems:
While recording, the audio can't be heard in my earphones.
When I play back, the real tracks are all recorded onto the audio track along with the sounds I record through the microphone.

Can someone please help?

Thanks

Mike what are you recording thru? I.E. what interface or sound card? Sounds like a "what you hear" issue.

This means the sound card is hearing everything you hear in the head phones. For this reason I use a mixer setup properly on my sound card so i record only the new track that is send to the group out (attached to the line in on card) but i hear all the tracks. Most dedicated sound cards and interfaces have monitoring capabilities like this, but build in cards do not without a bit of help.

Hello again
Thanks for the reply.

I'm using the internal soundcard on a laptop.
As I mentioned, I'm not hearing what I'm recording, although it records and plays back OK.

I don't know which Windows version you are using but maybe it's something in the Windows mixer. Go in Audio|Playback mixer and Audio|Recording mixer and look there. Perhaps you'll stumble across something.

In order to hear what you are recording with a built in sound card you need to enable or raise the volume on either "what you hear. or Wave, or mix or something in the cards mixer applet that controls the entire mix of what the card hears. This is why this is a very ineffecient system.

I do know that some Dell laptops for awhile (only with Vista) did not include input monitoring in their soundcard driver. Don't know if this is still the case, but something to consider. It may just require an update to the soundcard driver. I'd get on your manufacturers support forum and ask the question; someone probably has the answer.

Thanks, everybody, for the input. It seems like I should give up gracefully and go back to my old system.

Mike, really that is what you took from this conversation? I would not give up, just look at what is needed and head that direction. The fact is that the built in sound cards in a laptop were never meant for recording, they will do a decent job for playback, but recording is a different beast. It is like racing the Indy 500 in a Nissan Z 350, a fast little car but no match for a professional race car.

What you need to take from this is that you need a decent interface to from the software and laptop. Then you will have a nice mobile setup. Take a look at the stuff from M-Audio the drivers are solid and it will change the way things work. http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/nav...1+344252+202082

If i had a laptop i would go with something like the fasttrack pro down about 5 from the top, or at least the top one. Even better is probabily this dude. http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Focusrite-Saffire-6-USB-Audio-Interface?sku=583658
