Anyone ever use Sampletank Accoustic drums? If so why does none of the drum kits play right? I assume it is something to do withthe Imap system. but i never get any thing to sound right it seems to play the wrong drums.
Any thoughts or words of wisdom?

It's the IMap setup. The acoustic drums 2 Xpansiontank set has GM versions, which should work better. I haven't tried them out much, however.

It has everything to do with the Imap system. Imap is a big deal and is designed for keyboard players to play a drum kit on a keyboard and the fingerings make it much easier to play like a live drummer. It works great too. You need to use the GM kits if you're playing a GM midi file. Just a comment here, so many people wonder why these high end samplers don't play midi files the way they think they should. The developers didn't make SampleTank to simply be a midi file player or play Band in a Box songs, it's designed for musicians to create and design their own tracks. When you look at it that way, the fingering of a GM drum kit mapped to a keyboard does not lend itself very well to playing drums. Another reason why pros could care less about GM.

Dan, I did not see them on the set list but will take a look tonight.
Bob, I am fine with setting up each sound for each song, and saving it for next time, I do not need GM for most things, i want good sound. But was puzzled as to why the imap kits play wierd sounds. Like instead of a snare you get a drag on the snare, and there is not kick. But in the demo it sounds great. I though maybe i had to change some setting or something.

Yeah, it's not weird sounds just different parts of the kit. I don't have anything open right now but lets say GM mapping has the snare on key number A2. Imap may have it on Gb2 and the A2 key could be a floor tom or something. If you create a drum track using Imap, the midi notes are being recorded using the Imap system. That is fine but if you were to send that midi file to someone else who doesn't have Sampletank, then that drum track will sound "weird" to them too. This is the big tradeoff about using GM. It's a recognized standard, a lot of people use it so it's great for swapping files around but it doesn't support all kinds of neat stuff like Imap or Garritans controller's for horn articulations and lots of other stuff. Gm is generic but works great for a lot of people.

I understand what you are saying but how does one get the drums to play correctly in RB?

I'm new to this and searching for answers myself, but as near as I can see, there is no easy way to do this. If your midi file doesn't have the drums already on separate tracks, RB will split them out for you from the menu, giving you a good start. What you need to do now is transpose each drum track to a new note value that will sound the correct drum in ST. This would be a piece of cake, except for one thing. You have the gm mapping to consider, and figuring out what you want isn't that easy. For example, say you look at your bass drum track and it's showing at note b2. Now solo the track and play it, loading the IMapDonLiteKit in ST and look at your ST keyboard. You'll probably see the note arriving there as b1 instead of b2, and you won't have any sound. Click on c2 on the ST keyboard several times and see if you have a bass drum there (RB has to be playing to have any sound). If so, hit edit->pitch transpose midi music, and enter 13 (instead of 1), transposing your b2 to c3. Hopefully, you now have a bass drum playing, and the ST keyboard shows it arriving at c2. :>) And remember, you've only done one drum, and have all the rest to go.  lol
