Just really getting into BiaB. And I am liking the results I'm getting.However I would like to get better sounds. I have several other synths that I can use. What I am wondering is can I use something like EZDrummer for the drums, GPO for stuff like strings and horns, True Piano for the piano parts and so on, all within the same song? Or am I limited to using one synth per song?
One other thing, I am using Edirol's VSC DXi. And when I start BiaB, I have to go to Options/Pref/Midi drvr/ and select the Edirol VSC to have sound when I play the song (I have to do this everytime I start BiaB). And if I go to Windows Media Player to listen to a song, then return to BiaB I have to repeat the above each time I return from WMP to have sound.

You can only use one synth in Biab because it only has one midi output port. This was one of many big problems answered by Real Band. It does almost everything Biab does plus it's 48 tracks with 32 midi output ports. If you're new at this, learn them both at the same time. There's a lot to like about RB.

I use BiaB as a song structure tool and finish in Rb.
Another options is to use a hardware synth, of to use something like Sampletanks GM omnisynth i have been using it and it sounds very nice so far.
HP Win 11 12 gig ram, Mac mini Sonoma with 16 gig of ram, BiaB 2025, Realband, Reaper 7, Harrison Mixbus 9 32c , Melodyne 5 editor, Presonus Audiobox 1818VSL, Presonus control app.

I was in my "studio" trying different things out. And I exported a song I made in BiaB then opened it in Sonar and used all my synths. The sound was very pleasing. I can see myself sketching out tunes with BiaB and exporting to Sonar. And I can even see using some of the trks that I would export from BiaB in the finished song.
What would be the Difference in using RB as opposed to Sonar? Would I be duplicating apps? Or is RB that different? I'm going to read up on RB. But some user experience would be helpful.

Wow, easy drummer is better than Real Drums? I'm 'paying' lots for them and don't want to start thinking those dudes did all that work and all I needed by easy something. Whoever she is...

Grem, if you use Real Band just as a sequencer, then it has no particular advantage over any other sequencer - SONAR or many other choices. Often it's a matter of which one operates more like the personal style you prefer, or what the other musicians you work with are using. Real Band does have one major advantage over any other sequencer, though: it can preserve the chord information from BIAB, so that you can continue to change the song. In other words, there is some overlap between BIAB and Real Band. Give it a try. The only reason I stay with SONAR is that I have used it for a decade and I'm comfortable with it. I do not claim to know Real Band well; others here are far more experienced with it.

To John;
As I am a new user to BiaB, and thus RB (I didn't even know I had it!) I was displeased with the sounds I am getting from the Roland synth. And knowing what I know about Sonar, it was a lot easier for me to just export a midi file to Sonar (great feature of BiaB!) and plug the synths that way just to hear what BiaB can really do. I was really pleased! My wife came home today and she listened to what I had exported and noticed the difference right off. So if I sounded like I was dissing BiaB, let me say that I'm sorry and that was just not the case.
To Matt:
I am also a long time user of CW(since PA6).And I got BiaB for me to quickly and easily make songs that I could practice to. My job now has me to where I can no longer devote time to playing in a band. So BiaB was suggested to me and here I am. And seeing that BiaB and RB are made to work together, I am very interested in seeing what I can come up with!!
As with any powerful feature rich software, it has a learning curve. I am at the bottom right now. But if I can get some pointers here (like I already have,thanks!) I can do what I want to do. I am really a hands on guy. I read the manual, up to chapter 6, but at some point ya just got to get into it!
