Hi,
I apologize if this has been asked before. I poked around with the search tool for a bit, but did not find anything that matched.
What I would like to do is to take a BIAB song (with no intro or ending, possibly 1 or more choruses) and generate a wav file suitable for looping. So far my efforts to do this have had a couple of problems. In one case, no matter what I did, the end had a funny fade to it. In another case everything sounded great but there was a fraction of a second of silence at the end. In both cases, when I looped the wav file, it became very obvious where the "seam" was. I finally pulled the file into audacity and trimmed off the little tail at the end and it sounds pretty good.
I figured that I can't be the first person to do this :-) Is there really no alternative other than using other tools to finish up the loop? Should I really be using RealBand for this purpose? I admit that I have not even begun to dig into that program. Even though I have owned many versions of BIAB over the years, I continue to learn new things about using it properly.
thanks, Dave

Dave, I don't recall anyone ever using Band In A Box to create audio loops. I suppose you could do it, but you're going to need to use an audio editor program like Audacity, GoldWave, Audition or some other dedicated wave editor to do the trimming and such. I don't think you can do it in Band In A Box itself, at least not with the accuracy needed to create seamless loops.
Good luck to you.
Gary
I'm blessed watching God do what He does best. I've had a few rough years, and I'm still not back to where I want to be, but I'm on the way and things are looking far better now than what they were!

A loop is just another repeat. You can set up Biab to repeat whatever section you wanted to loop. Also, in Real Band you can go into the "Bars" window and you can copy and paste whatever bars you want in midi or audio. Isn't that the same as looping it or am I missing something? If you want to set up an endless loop for practicing, Biab will do that too. Tell us exactly what you're trying to do here, what's the reason for the loop?

Bob,
My goal is to create a wav file that can be used as a jam track (in an external device that just plays the wav file over and over). I actually did find a reference to doing something like that in the BIAB help file where they tell you how to turn off the 2 bar intro. I realize that I can use BIAB to loop things forever.
Gary,
Thanks for the suggestions. I did use audacity to fix up one of the files that I generated, as a test. I was just wondering if the wav file generation could be fine tuned so that I wouldn't have to do that. I did select values of "0" for the delay time at the start and end, but there was still "just a little" delay. It's certainly not the end of the world if I have to do this, I just want to make sure its absolutely necessary and I'm not missing some checkbox or option someplace.
thanks, Dave

Ok just a thought, what about setting up Biab to loop forever and just record that as an MP3 for whatever you think is the maximum amount of time you would ever need it for? You could play that back from your phone or any MP3 player. Otherwise Audacity is as fast as anything to fine tune and trim a loop.

The most powerful loop software i have ever used is Acid Pro. It was designed from the ground up to handle loop based audio. What I used to do in it was to take a piece of audio set the looped region and hit start and it will loop over and over, then adjust the loop points until it is seamless. Then it has a feature called render and a sub setting of looped region only, that makes a reuseable looped audio clip.
Well worth the $69 to buy the Acid Studio version to have as a specialized tool in the arsenal.
This is cool if you need to add an instrument that you do not play very well. You can play a few bars and then find on bar that sound perfect and make a acidized loop out of it, then string that together to make a track.
A good example of this is if you want a particular strum pattern for an accoustic guitar, but to play the strum pattern over three or four chords flawlessly for a 4 minute song is difficult make a loop of each chord value, and piece them together in separate tracks and then render to one stereo guitar track. Import into any song.
For your need just loop the area to play along with for as many loops as you want.

I use BIAB to export loops to my RC50 looper. The issue I have is with timing of the loop so it coincides with the built in click (which is what goes to my drummer's monitor). One easy solution is to use the "soundtrack window" to export a loop of a specific length. You can set the length of the segment on the main screen (start and end measures). Of course, you'll need to do some math ( #measures x beats per measure / beats per minute).
Lately, I have used an external editor (Cubase Lite) to just trim the parts and import them into specific loop channels ( I usually export the individual files so I can edit each). Exporting the entire song and splicing gives more of a seamless transition between song sections. Otherwise, just exporting segments you sometimes get some sort of odd drum or piano lick at the end of a section that conflicts with the beginning of the next loop.
Hope this helps somewhat.
