This has got to be the biggest joke out! The Eurovison Song Contest 2010 was won by THIS???

Germany

It is complete and utter RUBBISH!! Heck, the bad singer at my local karaoke club could do better...

And the song is rubbish too!

So much for the Eurovison Song Contest - whatever happened to the days of Cliff Richard, ABBA, even Johnny Logan?

Can you believe it beat THIS?

Sweden

Sweden, somehow, did not make the finals...

Now, tell me that the Eurovison Song Contest is NOT political

The only thing political about the Eurovision Song Contest is the fact that Israel is allowed to enter, since when were they Europe? Otherwise it is what it always was, crap. Having said that, look at it from a music marketing standpoint. Trying to find the formula for a song that will be liked by such a diverse audience on first hearing is no mean feat. The German entry achieved that, a foot tapping, jolly, snappy, disco type of tune that most people can mimic while gyrating to. I wouldn't buy it, but I must give credit where it is due, a good performance. And the majority liked it, so I guess that is a show of democracy, so you are right it is political.

It is badly written nonsense, Sinbad! How can anybody dare to think that lyrics like the following constitute a song? Here they are:

I went everywhere for you
I even did my hair for you
I bought new underwear they're blue
and I wore them just the other day

Love you know I'd fight for you
I left on the porch light for you
Whether you are sweet or cruel
I’m gonna love you either way

Love oh love
I gotta tell you how I feel about you
Cause I oh I can’t go a minute without your love
Like a satellite
I’m in an orbit all the way around you
And I would fall out into the night
Can’t go a minute without your love

Love I got it bad for you
I saved the best I have for you
You sometimes make me sad and blue
Wouldn’t have it any other way

Love my aim is straight and true
Cupid's arrows just for you
I even painted my toenails for you
I did it just the other day

Love oh love
I gotta tell you how I feel about you
Cause I oh I can’t go a minute without your love
Like a satellite
I’m in an orbit all the way around you
And I would fall out into the night
Can’t go a minute without your love

Love oh love
I gotta tell you how I feel about you
Cause I oh I can’t go a minute without your love

Where you'll go I’ll follow
You set the pace we'll take it fast or slow
I’ll follow in your way
You got me you got me
A force more powerful than gravity
It’s physics there’s no escape

Love my aim is straight and true
Cupid's arrows just for you
I even painted my toenails for you
I did it just the other day

Love oh love
I gotta tell you how I feel about you
Cause I oh I can’t go a minute without your love
Like a satellite
I’m in an orbit all the way around you
And I would fall out into the night
can’t go a minute without your love

Love oh love
I gotta tell you how I feel about you
Cause I oh I
can’t go a minute without your love

The lyricist should be given a dunce's cap to wear and be made to stand in the corner for writing such complete and utter CRAP. Every line is a throw away... Truth is, with too many silly little pop stars like Britney Spears and the Minogue sisters, the public is getting too used to RUBBISH

FWIW, I didn't watch the contest but I did check the Swedish entry (FAR better but didn't qualify for the final for some reason) and the British. The Swedish singer has talent and the British entry wasn't too bad either but the German entry should have been filed in the nearest dustbin

Sam,
Two types of music:
1. Serious---the Classics & Jazz
2. Folk--- The peoples music

If you've got the credentials you can criticize #1.
You can't criticize #2 cause it's purely subjective, If the people like it they like it. Don't matter if it follows musical/lyrical convention.

Besides you're just jealous it ain't you!

It is all very well to criticise songs especially ones that won such a big competition as the Eurovision (even though it is frowned on by most people) we all do it at times.

BUT remember this, this song was written to order for a specific type of contest and audience and 100% fair play to the person or people who did it, and it won, which will only serve to enhance the reputation of the people involved as well as probably put some money in their pockets.

Rubbish as you may think or I may think Sam but either of us would be walking around on a high today if either of us were to achieve it.

Fair play to them!

Just keep in mind who is buying music these days and you will see this song hits a bullseye on that target. It is young girls/ladies and I'll bet 99% of them can relate to this lyric, the other 1% will love the techno back beat grove. I close my eyes and I hear and see a Lady Gaga performance. So I am thinking not political at all, just good business.

I haven't seen or heard the Eurovision contest. For years on end it has been nothing but an insult to serious music writers and performers.

I would post a link to the Dutch candidate, but I am much too ashamed by the fact that my country was represented by a complete parody.

my parents thought the following lyrics were rubbish, but I as a kid, didn't
could be the same now!!

Well, be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby
Be-bop-a-lula, I don't mean maybe
Be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby
Be-bop-a-lula, I don't mean maybe
Be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby love
My baby love, my baby love

Well, she's the girl in the red blue jeans
She's the queen of all the teens
She's the one that I know
She's the one that loves me so

Say be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby
Be-bop-a-lula, I don't mean maybe
Be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby
Be-bop-a-lula, I don't mean maybe
Be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby love
My baby love, my baby love

Well, she's the one that gots that beat
She's the one with the flyin' feet
She's the one that walks around the store
She's the one that gets more more more

Be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby
Be-bop-a-lula, I don't mean maybe
Be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby
Be-bop-a-lula, I don't mean maybe
Be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby love
My baby love, my baby love

Gibson,
You are so on the button! I think Be bop a lula is one of the founding songs of Rock n Roll.
Yes it's a 12 bar with ridiculous lyrics, but I've performed it a zillion times in my live repertoire and brought the house down every time. It's a phrase I wish I had written in the 60s. Millions of teenagers have sang along to that song at house parties and dance halls
Yes it's all business.
Have you heard the words to Bette Davis eyes by Kim Carnes, for instance?????????

Her hair is Harlow gold, her lips a sweet sur prise
Her hands are never cold, she's got Bette Davis eyes
She'll turn the music on a nd you won't have to think twice
She's pure as New York snow, she's got Bette Davis eyes

Chorus:
And she'll tease you, she'll unease you all the better just to please you She's precocious and she knows just what it takes to make a pro blush
She got Greta Garbo's stand off sighs, she's got Bette Davis eyes

She'll let you take her home, it whets her appetite
She'll lay you on her throne, she got Bette Davis eyes

She'll take a tumble on you Roll you like you were dice
Until you come up blue, she's got Bette Davis eyes

How "serious" were these songwriters and Ms Carnes herself??

This forum talks of "serious!" music and "serious!" musicians. Good grief!!!!!!!
Guys guys guys!!! Please lets try to understand that everyone is a potential songwriter and anyone could actually make it talent AND luck

To be SO judgemental is not cool and is actually very silly
Luv ya all

Sam,

Let's face it, most hit songs are rubbish, and when "serious" musicians hear them they think "I could have written that garbage in my sleep!"

What the public is looking for is beat and a "hook" in whatever style they like.

While there are some serious songs that have became hits, they are the exception, not the rule.

For what it's worth, every time I hear "Wooly Bully" or "Be Bop-a Loola", I stop and sing along. Can't help myself!

Bob

Speaking of silly lyrics:

Come Together

Here come old flattop he come grooving up slowly
He got joo-joo eyeball he one holy roller
He got hair down to his knee
Got to be a joker he just do what he please

He wear no shoeshine he got toe-jam football
He got monkey finger he shoot coca-cola
He say "I know you, you know me"
One thing I can tell you is you got to be free
Come together right now over me

He bag production he got walrus gumboot
He got Ono sideboard he one spinal cracker
He got feet down below his knee
Hold you in his armchair you can feel his disease
Come together right now over me

He roller-coaster he got early warning
He got muddy water he one mojo filter
He say "One and one and one is three"
Got to be good-looking 'cause he's so hard to see
Come together right now over me

It's still a great song, but these are some of the goofiest lyrics I've ever heard. But it's got that "groove".

I would have to agree with that, Bob. Damned silly song by The Beatles...

But it was The Beatles

And a damned silly but highy successful band they were
