I have a BEHRINGER 802 mixer. I have a Shure SM57 mic and that will be plugged into the XLR input into the 802 mixer. I have a SoundBlaster AUDIGY with an external black box on it, so what would I plug where to be able to HEAR what I'm recording as I'm recording into the 802 mixer. I will be plugging in the cable from the 802 mixer into LINE INPUT 1 on the Audigy card external black box.
I don't need to hear any effects and such....... just wanna hear myself with the heaphones on as I'm recording. I've heard this answered before and stupid me forgot it. Do I plug my headphones into the AUDIGY sound card headphones port or into the 802 MIXER main out port ... or .........??

Ray, Same set up. Main outs of mixer to amp & speakers. Output from soundcard into a channel on the mixer. Aux out of the mixer to line in of sound card Headphones in mixer. You have the meters showing in RB while singing into the mic. Turn up the aux send on that channel until the meters are where you want them.

Fiddle with the buttons. I had that setup. I had to write it down though for I'd forget. Something about pressing one down..it escapes me.

John C. is probably thinking of the control room monitor button.. which may be needed depending on the set up.
Ray, you left out one important detail - how do you hear the previously recorded tracks now? Does the audigy connect to speakers somehow? Or does it come back to the mixer? Silvertones has it come back to the mixer... I don't usually do that, but go to a headphone amp or speakers instead.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Hey Bob 'rharv'
Thanks for responding.
I hear stuff now by plugging in the earphones to my AUDIGY SOUND CARD black box. I also have a stereo speaker system connected to the back of the PC where normal PC speakers would go. So I can hear through speakers on the PC table or I can silence that and hear through my headphones from the AUDIGY External black box.
You told me all this one time. I can't remember. Darn it! You told me to run something from the external black box BACK TO THE 802 MIXER and I don't remember all the details.
THANKS, BOB, if you can help. Much appreciated.

If you use the headphones from the Audigy now, that will work for hearing what you are recording.
In the Audigy mixer, make sure the Line In slider is up on the playback mixer as well as the record mixer ...
Running the line out back to the 802 is where you will start to make things more complicated.
You would have to switch the cables that currently connect to the main output of the 802 over to connecting to the AUX Send jacks of the 802. Then whatever channel on the mixer you are recording; use the trim and slider to adjust for a good level AND then use the AUX send dial to adjust the signal being sent to the soundcard to get recorded.
Then connect the line out of the Audigy to one of the stereo input channels (you'll need a "Y" cable to split left/right) of the 802 and NEVER adjust the AUX Send dial for that one channel above zero, as you will be creating a feedback loop by sending the signal from the Audigy back to the mixer and back to the audigy and back to the mixer etc. Just use the trim and slider to adjust the listening volume from the soundcard, but leave Aux send at zero on that one channel.
Now you could use the headphone jack on the 802 instead, or connect speakers to the main outs of the 802.
As I said, it gets more complicated this way.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

There are many ways to do this it all depends on what you want to do. My system is sort of complex in that I use KX drivers with my Audidgy. It gives me 4 pairs of outs. That's why I return everything to the mixer and use the aux as the in to the Audidgy. With KX I can use, during performance, not only as the outs but also as an effects processor. 2 outs are for drums, 2 outs are for the rest of the tracks and 2 outs are effects returns.
