This song was laying around for too long, and tonight I finally had a chance to finish it. I wrote this song when I got a phone-call from a friend saying he and his wife where having a divorce. No sparkles anymore, no communication, and she found another....

Well most of the song was done. Bas and drums are BiaB Realtracks. I played all the guitarparts (maybe I shouldn't have, but hey... as long as we're having fun.....). Of-course I took the vocals. Harmonies where done by my friend TC VoiceLive 2.

It's 2:40 AM here, so I probably should have gone to bed hours earlier. But you all know the saying: Time is fun when you're having flies.

Anyway, for all of you who want to take a listen to the song "If the grass is greener": click here to do so

I'm open to any and all of your comments and I sure can use some help on the lyrics and pronunciation.

Have fun!

Liked the song. Here is a short clip on the pronunciation of the word "other." http:about-him.com/music/other.mp3

Mike the music is great, and the singing spot on. Not bad country for dutchboy. Excellent guitar work as well. Clean and clear.

Excellent mix. Your pronunciation of the word other is the only criticism I can hear. Overall a very well written, mixed and performed song. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Mike,

I liked your song.
Isn't it always the case that inspiration can come from the most unlikely conversations.

As to your pronunciation of "other" well lets just say if I was to attempt that in your language I'd be in trouble.

Well done

Regards
Michee

Nice song, well done Mike. As far as pronunciation is concerned, don't worry, your "other" sounds better than some efforts I have heard from so called native English speakers. (from both sides of the Atlantic and Pacific )

Thank you all for these very, very kind words!
Even more thanks for the criticism: these are highly regarded by me and I try to learn from them.

@Don S.:Thank you for making that sound-file for me! I have listened to it several times (and will again later on) and I will keep your advice in mind when I re-do the vocals tonight. (When the temperature drops a bit: it's 39deg.C/84.2deg.F in my office/studio. And no, it is not a DRY heat! Time for air-conditioning, I guess)

You are right about my pronunciation of the word "other". Well, it may be a country-song, but I just can't go about singing "If the grass is greener on the UDDER side.

That would bring up this picture:

The above picture is NOT meant as an insult to anybody. It is just "The UDDER side"

Let's call it "Methane Moosic - It's a Gas".

This is not an editorial comment on the song Mike which I think is great. I would like to see a copy of the lyrics though. Can you PM them?

Congratulations - Ian

Hi Mike,

This is a really catchy song! I loved it. Now I can't get it out of my head!!!! (That's probably a good sign, though.) You've got a sensational voice, the harmony is terrific, and your guitar playing is top-notch. The song is produced incredibly well, too. Apart from the pronunciation thing that a couple of the guys have mentioned, there's nothing I can fault. To be honest, I really liked hearing those couple of instances of your accent.

Because I'm in Australia, I often use the Merriam-Webster dictionary to help me get some American pronunciations correct. It's an online dictionary with the words vocalized. It's been very, very useful.

Good luck with your songwriting, Mike. You've got a magnificent sound happening.

Noel

Mike, it sounds very good. Nice and clean. All instruments sound perfect.

As far as the word 'other.' If you hadn't pointed it out I wouldn't have paid that much attention. If you bring attention to anything then people start focusing on that.I don't think many others would have paid that much attention either. Word pronunciation is your personality. Have you noticed how Americans pronounce words? Listen to a few songs. You sound fine. My singing pronunciation is a little better than my talking voice. If you talked to me you'd think I just fell off a chicken truck.

Hi Mike,
Very good on all counts. I especially like the guitar parts because they suit the song and they are not overplayed--a malaise that effects far too many country songs these days, imho. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.

Some fine guitar playing there (all the guitar parts)

And as for the vox….!

Mike you can be really proud of this one.

Thanks Charlie, Jim and Marc.

I decided the song needs to be redone, but now in the key of D. This way I can do more with the vocals. Don't know yet when I can re-record, but as soon as I have I will keep you all posted.
