I am in the process of installing a more reliable and faster solid state hard drive to run my BIAB 2008.5 out of. Do you know is there will be any conflicts between BIAB and Seagate Firmware?

I'm not sure I understand this question, but I can tell you I use an Intel 180GB SSD boot drive (fabulous!), and have both Seagate and Western Digital hard drives in the same PC, with no trouble.

Matt, "fabulous!" sound like a thing to consider seriously coming from you, please could you tell a little bit about your 180GB Intel drive? I have really interested in this new SSD fever, especially now that technology should be maturest.

Regarding your Seagate SSD; Did you use the firmware that came with it? If so how did it work?

Hello biabwriter. In thirty years of building my own computers, I never updated firmware of a hard drive. Perhaps I'm still not understanding your question. Please try again, expanding it a little and leaving nothing basic out, just so we're clear. Also, you replied to Carlos and asked him about his Seagate SSD, but Carlos does not have a SSD. I do, but as I mentioned, it is an Intel brand.
Hi Carlos. I did a complete upgrade to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit (once I had drivers for all my sound stuff), and I put it on an Intel 180 GB SSD drive. The difference in boot time was amazing, and the read speed is so much faster it's hard to believe. I know there are less expensive SSD drives than Intel, and faster-rated ones, but I have an Intel motherboard and I liked the Trim utility that came with the drive. Trim support is essential in an SSD drive to keep it from slowing down after repeated writes and deletes.
My data is still on regular hard drives. My understanding is that SSD drives are excellent for reading data, but not as great a difference for writing. That's why I used it for the operating system and programs, where much more reading than writing is needed.

I realized that after I had sent it. I just figured out how to edit my response in this forum. Sorry for the confusion.
Regarding the SSD; I'm planning on using it for the operating system and programs that's it. I've never seen or dealt with firmware for a hard drive but suddenly when I'm looking at the SSD's the reviews are contantly talking about them. I just wanted to make sure that the SSD doesn't need them to function. Thanks for your input, you answered my questions even though you weren't sure of my questions. Nice job!

You're welcome, if I stumbled into what you need.
Can you tell me exactly what that review said? I read many computer mags and haven't seen that.

There is no Seagate SSD drive of any size on Newegg.
The only 500GB drive (which is huge for an SSD) that is in stock is by OCX. No mention of firmware by Seagate or anyone else.
Do you have a link to the exact page?

Well, you are certainly making me work to help you. The link to this is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...7200%20RPM%202.
It is not an SSD. It is a hybrid drive with a tiny 4GB solid-state "boost". There was one purchaser who commented about the firmware update crashing his Macbook computer. At least now I understand why you asked about firmware. This is a very recent technology and I don't know if there are widespread problems or not. Just remember, with this, you would not be buying a true SSD drive.

So instead of bringing me more security it could cause me problems that nobody can help me with. I was looking at solid state due to lack of moving parts. After reading the article on "legitreviews" I understand that this is a little bit of SS and the rest is a standard hard drive.

Correct on all counts. It might be fine, but we don't know yet. And no way would it be the same as having a real SSD drive as your boot drive.
