Hi all,

I would be very grateful for any advice. I have an acer laptop aspire 5600 and I am having trouble with the mouse pad.

Within windows xp it won't work properly at all (pointer only moves sometimes) BUT if I load acronis true image from a cd at boot up instead of windows then within that program it works perfectly, so I figured that rules out the mouse pad itself being faulty. I tried to reinstall an acronis backup of xp (that is virus and malware free) but even within that backup of xp the mouse pad won't work.

I have restored bios defaults but still no good. By the way if I connect a wired or wireless mouse to laptop then the pointer works fine from the mouse, but not the mouse pad. The laptop has 1gb of ram and does seem to be running slow enough, could it be a memory problem?

Your views on this puzzling problem.

Many thanks
Joe

It sounds like a driver issue. Have you tried an update from the Acer site?

Go to control panel/ mouse and see if you find something amiss in the settings. If the image works but the OS doesn't work try reloading the mouse drivers.

Thanks for replies. I have now found out that there is a function key that can disable and enable the mousepad Fn + F7 but have tried that without success. I have tried the control panel and device manager and it says the mousepad is working perfectly.
Will try the driver update. Just wondering as well if a faulty memory stick could cause this?

Joe

I have a mouse pad on my lappy that acts badly. It jumps sometimes and in general does not move properly. I chcked it up to a bad mouse pad. I use a USB mouse and all is well. I actually hate the mouse pad anyway as it is very small and hard to navigate with my sausage fingers.

Well good news - someone on another forum mentioned to remove the main laptop battery from laptop and I did and guess what the mousepad is working fine again even with the battery back in.

I haven't a clue as to why or how that has solved it, but for the moment it has.

thanks again for everyones help.
