Hi All My suggestion comes from my own self-interest admittedly, but some of the old-timers here post their lyrics either on the playback site, or in their initial song posting. Personally I find that being able to read the lyrics is all part of the experience of listening to original songs. When I set up my own website I made sure that each song played when it's particular lyric page was opened. Why do I call this "self-interest"? Well my word discrimination is tanking and on most frequencies I need sound to be at 80 db at least, in my hearing aids before I hear anything. So when I listening to your postings I have trouble making out the lyrics, particularly if there is too much reverb or the voice is too set back in the mix. Loss in the high frequencies 1-2.5K means loss of word discrimination. Anyway - enough of that but I thought you deserved an explanation for my suggestion.
But I don't believe I am the only one who would enjoy the "total" experience of listening to a new song and reading the lyrics at the same time.
What do you think? Is this something you feel comfortable including in your song postings?
Thanks for reading. Cheers - Ian

another alternative is to use the movie maker software that comes packaged with nearly every PC and embed the music in a video. Then arrange the slides to present the lyrics as the song plays. Wherever you can upload MP3s you can usually upload videos too. As an added treat you can also add pictures to include more of the senses in the experience of your song.

+1 to lyrics. I listened to a song today and got none of them. The Peggy's Cove one. I have totally plugged ears, they are going to try tubes in them in 9 days (like I count eh?) and I hope that helps. For the first month I could not understand women at all. Then it was voice with other noise. Now it's hit and miss, but some stuff is beyond my hearing and I sympatise with anyone who has permanent issues with it. I'm either there or it's going to get somewhat better. Some of the nerves in the area are fried, I can't hold my head up very well and they say it MIGHT get better. Same area as some of the auditory nerves. OH well, I'm alive right!
Hey Ian, do headphones help at all??

John...nothing to do with this thread, although I agree with making lyrics available. Just wanted to say what a great, informative website you have. VERY nice job indeed.

Good idea. I always wish my lyrics were up. I didn't know if it was right to put them in a post here. Wayne

Morning John I feel for you. For me headphones don't work unless I use my hearing aids inside of them. My hearing loss is severe to profound. Maybe you should have a hearing test right now to see what your loss level is for each major frequency. Then you might be able to determine a temporary fix. Audiometer tests cover basically 200Hz to 6500Hz. It's possible that UofWO's audiology department can do from 100Hz. Setting a hearing aid for speech is different than for music. If you're interested google Marshall Chasin an audiologist who works with musicians at his clinic in TO. Speech enhancement needs a boost in the 1-2.5 KHz basically where the consonant's reside. The vowels are found at around 500Hz (+/-). For music if you overboost for speech then you're overboosting those harmonics of instruments that have root notes on the lower end. Maybe if you could find a studio headphone splitter that has it's own L & R equalizer controls, perhaps you can adjust for the compensation of your hearing loss.
The body can heal pretty amazingly - Ian

I want to echo the same sentiment, John! Great web site! Most of all I am impressed by your zeal for music and the enthusiasm you communicate!
I find that life is not exactly abounding with inspiring people... but for some reason this forum has attracted an uncommonly high number of people whose thoughts, ideas and enthusiasm appeal to my sensibilities. You are one of them.
I look forward to checking the forum posts daily to hear what the people I have come to like and respect are thinking about. I am not only inspired by the software (thanks PGMusic) but also by the people who use it. Thanks to all the good people who post frequently and make this an interesting storage bin of ideas.

Bob, Pat, many thanks. I've been extensively revamping my songs web site for a while and hope to put it up in the next couple of weeks. It'll include a lot of hints and tips for recording and songwriting, etc.

I always mean to post lyrics, but then lazyness gets the better of me. I myself don't prefer to read lyrics but so many people do. I'll be sure to do so too.
You know, isn't there an A.L.G. in Biab? Meaning, Auto Lyric Generator? Think of it- auto chords AND lyrics! That'd save some time writing them! LOL! If only...!

I want to say "thank you" to those who are posting their lyrics along with their song links. It definitely does help me to understand what I am "hearing". The song is a complete artistic package that way. The effort is probably appreciated by more "listeners" than you realize.
Cheers and Thanks - Ian
