Hi folks.

I really getting into my Band in a Box and all the real drums/tracks stuff, quite excellent.

When entering a stop or a push, is it possible to somehow specify how intense they are.

I'm talking now specifically about real drums and tracks, not the midi styles as I'll rarely be using them.

For example, I put together a pretty generic slow jazz track with a sax solo and entered a couple of pushes at key areas.

However, although two of the 3 pushes were fine and at the correct soft intensity, the first one was like a big loud snare bang! and sounded so out of place.

Similarly, is there a way of specifying the intensity and/or complexity of fills in a track.

a fill mid way through a long verse only needs to be subtle, but a fill going into the final section of a song might need to show a bit of oomph and/or flashness.

I've been reading through the help docs and kind find anythinga bout this so it may not even be possible. Would be nice to know though.

Cheers
Darren

There is an entry in Options, Preferences, Arrange for "Boost velocity of pushes by" and another for "Boost shots by" but I don't think these affect the Real Tracks and Real Drums, just MIDI.

What version of BIAB do you have? This was discussed a few months back, and you should make sure you are up to date with your Real Tracks patches from July, since Peter Gannon said that the shots were toned down some. I don't recall if that included pushes or fills. I'll try to find his post about it.

[EDIT: Found it; it was a post in the recent beta testing, so I won't reproduce it here, but Peter said there would be adjustments to the volume of shots in the upcoming release of 2010.5.]

To my knowledge, you have no control over what RTs produces. The fills, pushes and shots in RDs are defined in their .txt files found within the RD directory. Customizing RDs can be found in the BIAB manual. I've done a bit of customizing and can probably help if you decide to go this route. With the fills issue, play around with your part markers.

And if you get a track sounding 'right', don't forget to Freeze it. If not, each time you press Play, the track will regenerate (except Melody and Soloist).

The pushes/shots might be affected by A or B part markers as well. If you have some B parts that are too loud, try making them A parts and see what happens. If it works for you, then freeze them or send it all to RealBand.
Good luck.

Hi folks.

Many thanks for the responses.

I only received the package on Friday and it's the audio everything hard disc version, so I assume it's all up to date.

OK, I'll go and look into part markers and see if that changes things.

I didn't realise about freezing tracks to retain the performance, thanks for that tip.

Cheers
Darren
