OK so I have a keyboard (Nord) that is capable of outputting very nice sounds, but I can use them with BIAB. I went through all the set up options with support and they tell me this is impossible. So no Sound output from the Nord can be recorded - at all.

I also can't use my VSTs within BIAB.

I have to run my piano as a seperate standalone beside BAIB and control BIAB's level from within Win 7 (!) and the Piano within the standalone.

BIAB is fantastic in some ways, but I thought I bought an ACCOMPANIMENT program, it appears it cannot accompany (and record) my VSTs and/or the Audio inputs.

I would have thought that one could assume that an ACCOMPANIMENT program would perform these duties.

My view is that it simply isn't feasible to expect users to confine themselves to the GM synths in a world where so many finer quality instruments are ubiquitous.

Surely this needs urgent attention?

Hi

Thats why the,y brought out Realband so you can do all these audio things,a lot of people wanted to be able to record audio in BIAB but it would have been a complete rewrite to do it and it would have turned into another ten a penny sequencer

regards Dave

If you are wanting to play the tracks into BB then yes it is not designed for that. you can record a track in RB or PT and then import that audio track into BB. RB is a true DAW and can either record audio in or send midi to the Krog to play the tracks.

thanks for all your support. I have rang tecdh and tghey have found two corrupt files - a .ini and a config. Now Real Band is working for me. I still dont agree though that one should need another application just to use a VST or see a mixer. Like many users I already have a seuqncer, I use Cubase 5 so I dont need a low end sequencer like Real Band for any purpose really apart from playalong - BIAB should, but does not, meet all my accompaniment needs. Anyways I guess I will have to learn two applications instead of one. I guess I must juggle all three applications.

Hi Zero,

If you're using Cubase, then you probably won't really need to use RealBand if you don't want to. You can use the Drag and Drop feature to move all the RealTracks from Band-in-a-Box into Cubase as audio, and move any MIDI tracks into Cubase as MIDI, and use your VSTs, etc there. If you know what you're doing in Cubase, then it won't be too difficult, and you'll probably get great results. :-)

Yes I realise this Kent, but I seem to br straddled between oall three programs. I cant get VSTs into BIAB, notr Audio, I can only do this in Realtyracks. I cantr do any serious mixing in BIAB either. Please think about this, BIAB needs proper VST support and it needs a mixer - then you dont have to straddle two programs. Many of us have other sequencers which we are sungi and its not realistic to imagine we will jump ship to Real Band, nor settle for gm synth sounds. I jost dont get the need fro the application myself its just an unecessary level of complexity for me.

Zero, why do you keep harping on this. If you do not want to use RB don't, use cubase! Pg is not going to scrap the RB project just for you, or a handfull of others that do not want to use it. BiaB is what they intended it to be, auto accompaniment. RB is a sequencer, just like Cubase, or Sonar with a slightly different leaning. PG went to a lot of hard work to bridge the gap between Powertracks and BiaB, with RB. The HAVE a stinking Sequencer in Powertracks!! Others wanted to be able to generate RTs and RDs in the sequencer, Add VSTi power to the mix and use other tools, so they built RB.

If you want to use other programs other than PG products, good use them, but do not blame PG for the fact it does not do what you want. Kent gave a solution, if you do not want to learn RB drag to cubase, and all you did was restate the gripe.

a select few people keep complaining that they want BiaB to act like a combination or BiaB and a full sequencer. HELLLOOOOO that is exactly what RB is, a marriage of Powertracks and BiaB. If you are not willing to learn RB then you have no place to complain. 99% of it is not different from Cubase. Just get familiar with it, all the time wasted complaining you could have learned it by now. You say you don't get the need for RB, what? The need was as the users requested, a crossover as mentioned above.

PG is not here to make products that lead to sales for other DAW makers. they are in business to sell PG products. As far as jumping ship from Cubase to RB, well that is exactly what they want you to do, don't kid yourself this is BUSINESS plain and simple. They are here to promote their marketing plan, and their products, not make it easy for you to use other products. The fact that they added drop and drag says volumes about how much they care about their customers. They could have made it work only with their products, but they were fair about it, knowing some haved other products for years and RB is a new product, still young in development. But let's be real, selling BiaB, PTPA, and RB is formost on their minds. Heck the best part of it all is that RB comes free bundled with BiaB!!!!!!!

The fact that Realband will indeed replace Cubase (for pretty much all intents and purposes) and is included free, makes me tend to agree; if you learn RB you'll probably drop both the other programs. Try it, you just might learn to like it.

It generates backing (much like BiaB) and allows multiple audio ports, mulitple VSTi synths, etc ... and you already have it! The graphics may not be as purty as Cubase, but I have yet to ever be able to see those graphics while listening to a finished CD project.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I don't mean to harp, or be a pain, but folks keep asking for PG to develop BiaB into what they have already develop RB as. A mixer and VSTi support. So what are they supposed to do have two identical programs and call one BiaB and the other RB? Scrap Rb altogether? throw out 4 or 5 years of development? Just so a few of us do not have to learn anything new?

Then you hear folks say "what do they expect me to do change over to their products" "i like "xxxxxxx" Well go to their forum and ask them to develop their product to incorporate BiaB into it and see what they say.

Why not ask for reasonable things like continued progress in the RB project with better VST implimentation

You talk as if you are a self appointed spokesman for ALL users except what YOU call 'a select few' . This is a wish forum I will say what I want without your self appointed censure. I still think BIAB needs a MIxer and proper VST support. BIAB is an accompaniment player that cant really support a decent Piano without running it outside the app and using WIndows mixer. This is basic.

Rharv: Yes for many people RB will be enough, but RB is no Cubase, it can't become my sequencer here. RB may be useful but its a minnow.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo.
