Hi
I have just upgraded to 10.5 and using the External HDD.
Computer is Vista
I am a long time user of BIAB (starting on Atari)

My problem is i cant find some styles in the Style picker. I have updated to latest patch Version 2010.5 (304) and Re-built.

Scrolling down the left pane (categories) in Style picker it shows for example
RealTracks #99 [Country Waltz] [0] - starting at #83 to #101 all are [0].

Investigating the F:bb/ folder I found in "F:\bb\RealTracks - Demos" some SGU files that used the =CWALZF2 style which can now be found int the Recent Styles link. So it appears to be there but it won't show up in any other category of the style picker.

Another thing that doesn't seem to work is "if feel matches prototype" drop down. For example I have a waltz playing but it doesn't sort the waltz's (in categories) in the styles window - it shows everything BUT waltzes.

Any help will be much appreciated
Thanks

All (.sty) style files must be in either the main BIAB folder or in a sub-folder called "Styles". I would go into Windows Explorer and look at the main BIAB folder to see if the .sty files are there. If not, then there is something definitely wrong. I would also look at re-installing the latest update and make sure you point it to where BIAB is installed. It's possible that you pointed it to the "C:\BB" drive when you wanted it to point to "f:\BB".

If they are there, then I would recommend looking at your BIAB shortcut that launches BIAB to make sure that the "start in" folder is the same as your main BIAB folder. Then, go back in to rebuild the styles list.

Hopefully that gives you a few things to try.

Hi Pauloz,

Was this a 2010.5 HD originally, or was it a 2010 HD that you installed the Summer PlusPAK upgrade DVDs to? Also, are you running the program off of the HD directly or off of your internal drive?

Hi john
Thanks for information. All the styles are in F:\bb - I reinstalled anyway as recommended (I pointed to F:\bb originally). I can see the styles i am missing in F:\bb.

I have been using the shortcut in F:\Band-in-a-Box.exe
but also found F:\bb\bbw.exe

They both boot up the same and are both missing the missing styles. I rebuilt each time.

It says there are 7434 styles in the Style Picker. When i go to F:\bb and highlight all the styles there and click on properties it tells me there are 3717 files.

I am running everything from the HDD which is brand new from BIAB just received. The computer I am using has never run biab previously. I have my old version installed on other computer. I believe I should be able to use the HDD on any computer. A few files have been added to C:\bb but they seem to be VSC and coyote files.

Don't know if any of this helps.

Did you run the installation routine on the hard drive (which will install the PGMusic fonts, allow you to associate BIAB songs with BIAB in Windows Explorer, and create an icon). Even if you plan to run everything from the external hard drive, you should still do the installation routine and select that option.

Also, as a Beatles fan, I really loved your song "When The Last Beatles' Gone". The only thing I would do is to do some instrumental "shout-outs" to a couple of riffs. But that's your choice.

Hi john
Thanks again. I think i have found the problem. i think I may have been sent the wrong HDD. It does not seem to have any of the Real Tracks from #83 and up. It also installed BIAB 10 which I then upgraded to 10.5 but there are not the required real tracks etc. Strangely the HDD has UP304 sticker on it.

I have spent hours on this checking all the preferences etc so I guess I need to somehow contact BIAB and see if i am right. I guess that may take another week at best before i receive a replacement (if that is the problem).

Unless you have any other suggestions.

Hi Paul,

It's unfortunate that you've received the wrong unit. PGMusic don't make too many mistakes but I guess that as long as people are involved, it is never possible to eliminate human error completely. On the upside, in my opinion, there wouldn't be a better company on the internet for making sure that the error is resolved as efficiently as possible. I have a huge respect for the PGMusic's integrity.

Regards,
Noel

Hi Pauloz,

Yeah, that's disappointing alright.

The bright side is that you are indeed dealing with one of the best companies out there and I'm sure they will make it right for you.

Just find something to do while you wait on delivery of the right package.

Um, PRACTICE?

*grin*

Hi John
Thanks for your replies. Yes i know PGmusic is a good company. I started with it when i was using Atari ST on floppies. One thing the sales agent who i talked to said was they sent out an email to let know they may have sent the wrong one. Well I didn't recall receiving it - went through all old emails - still cant find it. So unless that particular email didn't get through while all others seem to - I do believe he may have lied. One other thing I have to get to a post office to return it and give a tracking ID before they send me a replacement. This is just more wasted time and if i cant get to a post office then the delivery of the new one just keeps dragging out.

If it was a faulty HDD i could understand that they may want to check it, but i have been a customer for 15 - 20 years or thereabouts (a guess) and THEY made the mistake, and didn't notify me. It is all just wasted time - I am guessing 3 - 4 hours absolute minimum so far, and i will receive the item approximately 4 weeks after i paid for it.

Anyway enough on that. Hopefully the rest of my upgrade experience will be better.

Thanks for your comments on "when the Last Beatles Gone". I was sent a guitar vocal demo by the co-writer and I used BIAB to pad it out a bit. It helps me a little hear it. I am not a good enough instrumentalist to do much with it. i really hope to do a proper demo one day.

I listened to some of your songs on SongU. I wanted to join them a while back but got too caught up in things to find the time to give it justice. I have spent some time in Nashville and it is very highly regarded there. I am a sucker for a country waltz and I really enjoyed yours "DREAMING 'BOUT DANCING" My guess it is a professional demo? If not you did a great job.
Thanks
PS I see you are in Victoria - I am on the Gold Coast

Could it have simply been a mistake?

I doubt that anyone at PGMusic intentionally lied to you.

I'm surprised that they are making you return the wrong hd before sending you the correct one. Another vendor that I have dealt with sends out the replacements immediately. Of course if I didn't return the 1st shipment, they would charge my card for it.

I'm not sure that you were "lied" to though. My experience with PG Music customer service has been that they are truly interested in a satisfied customer. Very sorry that you have had these problems. I'm having major difficulties getting a horn repaired right now so I can empathize with being ticked off.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for listening to my song. As you correctly deduced, it's a professional demo. My skills do not allow me to produce such a good sound (although Realtracks are helping me sound a bit better). I've found SongU a good place to hone the craft of songwriting. I'm also a member of Sonicbids which is great site for being kept in the look with music opportunities.

You're song "When The Last Beatles Gone" is excellent! It's a mighty good sounding "home demo". In my opinion, this would stand tall next to a whole heap of professional demos.

All the best with the changeover.
Noel

Received the new HDD yesterday but probably won't get to run it until tomorrow (Sat). Can't wait.
Although I bitched a bit the delivery service is brilliant. Each time it only took 3 working days from Canada to Australia.

SO looking forward to getting to it.
