Newbie here. I looked through the previous posts before asking you all, but no joy.

For the life of me, I cannot get any sounds to play with Realband. I see the vu bars moving on the tracks window for each track after generating and clicking on play but no sound out of my laptop speakers or headphone jack. I can drag and drop from BIAB into Realband, no problem. I test audio files and they open and play in windows media player, but not in Realband. I am talking about listening to my projects, not play thru with a MIDI device (I don't have one). When using BIAB, I hear everything just fine through my laptop speakers and headphone jack.

I have chosen the same MIDI and audio drivers for Realband as I have done in BIAB:

For MIDI = Microsoft Wavetable GS Synth, re-route playback from the default CoyoteWT

For Audio = Audio Driver type MME.

I have a Toshiba Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit; 4 GB Ram, Intel Core 2 Duo T660 and a 500GB HDD, so I should have plenty of horsepower, and I have downloaded and installed the latest software updates for both Realband and BIAB from the PGMusic web.

This is really got me stumped and is a bummer because I would love to use the tight integration between these two programs.

Thanks and let me know what you all think and if there is anything else I can add, etc.

I appreciate the time from each of you in advance!

Hi liveoakk,

If I had your problem, I'd perform the following sequence. If the first step didn't resolve it, I'd then move on to the second step, etc.

ONE
Make sure that I have the latest Realband update. (This will be a be a number in brackets after the version number accessed by Help >> About Realband. To check the latest update, go to...

http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windows_realband.htm

(Note: close RB before updating)

TWO
Work through the "Realband no sound..." page at PGMusic.

http://www.pgmusic.com/tutorial_rbw_nosound.htm

THREE
Reset RB to factory defaults. (The below is from Mac, a forum superstar!)
Quote:

*How can I return RealBand to the factory settings?

RealBand uses the files listed below for configuration. If you want to restore RealBand to the factory settings, you can delete or rename these files. The next time you launch RealBand, new configuration files will be created. This can help solve or troubleshoot odd and unexplainable problems you are having with the program. The files are found in the root RealBand folder, usually C:\RealBand. Important: You must have RealBand closed when you do this.

We recommend renaming the files (rather than deleting them) or saving a copy of them somewhere else on your hard drive so that you have a backup of your old configuration. For example, you could rename realband.ini to realband.old. Later, if you find that you need to restore your previous settings, you can delete the new realband.ini file that RealBand will have created, and rename realband.old to realband.ini

Note: Some people have trouble finding the files because Windows hides file extensions. In any folder on your computer, go to the Tools menu and click on Folder Options, then click on the View tab and make sure 'Hide extensions for known file types' is unchecked. On Windows 98/ME, the Folder Options item is found under the View menu.

REALBAND.INI. This file contains most of the global RealBand settings, especially the settings in the Options | Preferences and Options | MIDI Devices dialogs. It also has a list of the most recently accessed song files.
RB.CFG. This file contains information about your sound card
The two files above contain most of your program settings; it is usually only necessary to delete those two files.

--Mac

FOUR
Reinstall Realband.

Hope these ideas help.
Noel

OK. Followed steps 1-3, and no change (still no sound in Realband, but BIAB works for both MIDI and Audio).

I purchased my BIAB/RB as a download and the .exe file is a "Full" for both (bbrb2010full). If I run that to re-install Realband per Step 4 won't I also reinstall BIAB? Since that program is working, I am hesitant to do that.

It should be fine to reinstall. If you want to wait 24 hours, though. I suspect that someone else will come along with some ideas. These forums are pretty useful places.

Liveooakk,

A couple of questions spring to mind. What song have your installed into RB to play? Have you tried loading in a BIAB mgu/sgu file to see if it plays ok?

Regards,
Noel

Just clicking on MME in RB is not enough. After that click on "drivers" just below the "driver type" drop down and choose your driver there. Once you choose it click on "Move....to top". Click OK ,OK.
The reason you have to go a little further in RB is that RB offers multiple outs.

Thanks Noel.

I have tried the mgu/sgu files in the realband samples folder, as well as sgu files that I have created in BIAB. I don't hear anything in Realband from any of them.

Thanks Silvertones!

I did what you suggested and still nothing, no sound. I do appreciate your help though.

You seem pretty comfortable with the programs, so ..

Look in Biab and see which drivers are being used for MIDI and audio
Select the exact same drivers in RB and click 'move selected devices to top'.
This should get things working.

Don't know if you've done this or not, but do you have both RealBand and BIAB running at the same time. Depending upon your setup, that can sometimes keep one of them from sounding.

Definitely try RHARV's suggestion. If they match, you should be able to hear something. Again, run the programs separately to test. Also, check your Windows sound mixer to make sure something didn't get muted or set to zero.

Hi Liveoakk,

If you keep having trouble, feel free to give us a ring at 1-800-268-6272, I can walk you through getting the sound working.

This kind of issue tends to be easier to fix over the phone, shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

Doesn't RB have a full featured mixer which allows adjustment of each track? Can't you just adjust the track volume slider?

Sorry to answer a question with a question.

Normalize all your tracks before you start mixing.

Maybe normalize the drums, or use 'edit-audio effects- gain change' to boost drums, but I don't think normalizing all tracks is necessary procedure. BTW, the normalize process is in the above mentioned gain change plugin.

BiaB has an optional checkbox to boost the drums when generated that RB doesn't have; use the gain change plugin instead .. or even insert the realtime PGDynamics plugin or the PGPeakLimit plugin to boost the volume of the track. RB just handles it in a different way than BiaB. Maybe that BiaB checkbox will make it into future releases.

Thanks, I will call when things settle down. Sorry for not replying sooner and I really appreciate all of the great help and advice on here, but I have tried everything suggested so far and no dice.

FYI, Cubase 4 works, BIAB 2010.5 works, but not Realband. Strange. Right now, I am developing my songs in BIAB (LOVE the real tracks!) and then dragging and dropping into Cubase 4 for further editing. Works like a dream. Not so with Realband, however. No sound at all, bummer.

Howdy All, was a solution ever found for this issue? I seem to be experiencing the same thing. Ran thru steps 1 to 4 as per Noel's advice, but no luck. In RealBand, I can see the VU meters moving, there's just no sound. BIAB plays fine, and the exported wav files play fine in windows media player.

Thanks in advance, J
