It would be nice if you anon's would log in and give an opinion. But I know the regulars will log in soon so I'm not griping. Just wondering what you think. It's gettinig harder to determine how good yhe quality is to you due to my hearing loss. I'm never quite sure if I've got hi's and low's set right. I sweeten the sound using a BBE but I don't know if it's set properly until someone with good ears lets me know.

Thanks.

Russ

Russ,

I tried to listen to it, but it won't play without me allowing a "popup", and I never do that.

If I click on your photo, it lists your songs, but I don't know which one you want us to listen to. If you can get it to work without a "popup", or if you can tell us which one it is, I'll gladly give it a listen.

....................................

Edit. I tried to listen to one of your other songs and it still wanted me to allow a "popup".

Russ,

I used Google Chrome and it would play without a popup.

Your voice sounds good, but the synth in the background with the arpeggios sounds too “busy”. It may be true to the original, (don’t know), but it distracts from your voice.

Maybe pulling that back and slowing the tempo down several BPM.

Russ I listened to your song on firefox and it came on without me doing anything. Good recording. I can't see where it is to fast. If the organ is what was mentioned being to busy, I thought it was fine. Good to hear you doing something Russ. occ

Hi Russ,

I'm not an expert by any means, and my old ears (67 yrs) are far from golden, so this is not the reveiw you're looking for, but I thought I'd chime in anyway.

I've listened in my cans a couple of times and also on my "big" system. (Event TR8s and KRK sub). I also panned it to mono in both, as well as stereo. As far as I'm concerned, this is excellent in every way except perhaps the panning in stereo.

In mono, it sums really well. I can hear all the instruments at levels that work well for this tune and I wouldn't touch a thing. In stereo, it still sounds great, but I'm not hearing much spread at all.( intentional?).

Is this all midi? (That's the way I'm hearing it anyway) If so, all the instruments sound convincing.

All this needs is a little get together, toss this on the speakers and sing along karaoke style. lol
I'd come if I didn't live so far away.

Later,
Jim

Hi, Russ -

Sounds pretty true to the original to me (as I remember it from long ago). I enjoyed this.

Bob. Right click on the field then click on Open in new tab. It does the same with me using IE. In Firefox it goes to it on a single left click.

Thanks Jim. It's balanced like it's supposed to be to my 87 year old ears as well. Glad you liked it.

Thanks OCC. I really appreciate what you said.

Bob I appreciate it. Thanks to all for the input.

The only gripe I have is the vocal. Sounds odd to me but, then, I'm really used to Billy swan singing it. And Billy Swan I an't.

BTW has anyone else noticed the pop-up blocking in IE 8? When I want to goto something like the song above I have to right click the field and then left click the Open in new tab. In Fire Fox and Google Chrome I don't get that problem. Only IE.

Hi Russ,

For once I am not the last to know!

A 'User's Showcase' board has been set up by the Great and Good of PG Music (after years of patient campaigning).
Go to 'Forums' at top of page.

will listen to this when I get the chance

best regards

Russ,

Never much liked the original to be honest.

This is pretty faithful to the original, as I remember it.

Sometimes sounds like you’re struggling just a little bit up there.
It may be pitched a little high for you

At least you’ve done away with one annoying feature of the original – the upwards intonation on the “I can help” line.

The false ending is well done..got me thinking of other songs with false endings.

Any suggestions anyone

Russ, all sounds fine on my system and its good to hear your solo voice (I know you love your auto harmonies ;o)
Good surprise with the false ending.
I remember the original (so help me) but I prefer your version.... Truly!

I didn't get any pop-ups, sounds real good to me...!
We (Cats & Jammers) play that (original ) , along with most of the 50's 60's rock n roll, thanks for a nice variation.

I had the opposite experience here. Firefox blocked the needed plugin for "my protection." It opened without a hitch in IE8.
