Been travelling all day so missed a lot of the news on the Chilean miners, but just caught the last few hours of the rescue. Very, very emotional. The courage that man demonstrates in his rise to a challenge is phenomenal: the miners for being able to socially, physically, and mentally survive their ordeal of 69 days of entrapment; the rescue miners that willingly entered the shaft and went to the bottom to assist in the loading of the Phoenix; the teams of experts from various countries that willingly contributed their skills and assisted the Chileans; the Chileans from the President on down who truly believed they could do it; and finally you and me that watched these events with bated breath hoping for the best outcome. This is truly a great day! DennisD

I think it should be noted that the Chilean President led the country in a prayer of thanks to God for the safe return of the miners, and the heroic efforts of all those who were instrumental in getting this job done.

It should be noted as well that this great international effort ran smoothly, mostly due to the people involved, and not big Government.

A national prayer, led by the President, hmmmm what a great idea.

you can't get that in this country, even with an act of congress, but them congress wouldn't act, sad.

President Roosevelt also prayed on nationwide media at the beginning of the U.S. involvement in WW2.

If God was instrumental in the miners safe return should we presume He was instrumental in the cave in?

I liked Dan’s response:

I think a common misconception that some people have is that everything that happens is God’s will. Believers and non-believers use that as a starting point for an argument, (or let’s say a “discussion”). If that were true, people would be nothing more than puppets and God would be nothing more than the Almighty String Puller, which fortunately for us He isn’t. God intervenes when He wants to, and sometimes when He is asked to intervene.

The reasons for the “cave in” would probably fall into only two categories. Either the strata was unstable or safety protocols weren’t followed. I worked in the mines of WV for 3-1/2 years so I’m pretty familiar with the process of mining and the dangers involved. If I was trapped underground, I sure hope there would be LOTS of people praying for my rescue. I know that I would be on my knees in the mud and rocks spending some "quality time" talking to God if I were trapped there.

I’m not offended when an atheist or agnostic expresses their beliefs. They have a right to think whatever they choose. It’s called free will. I am puzzled when these same people choose to make fun of those who do have faith. Especially when it doesn’t affect them.

It was awesome to watch people come together for their fellow man. I can't imagine what those miners went through for those first few days, wow. Then they made contact with the outside world and plan A, B & C started.

I am glad the Chilean President allowed others to help and then allow for the live broadcast of the rescue effort. Those miners probably felt like they were literally rescued from their grave. I am sure their whole outlook on life has changed. I know mine did when my daughter had the Swine Flu.

I am thankful everything came together and they all made it out alive.

I was very taken with the Chilean president hugging all the men as they came out. He seemed like a very caring, genuine individual. Someting like that would be way beyond the stuffed shirts of Cameron & his henchmen over here. All they want is to line their own damn pockets and trod on those who get in their way

My guess would be yes, as I was always told God works in mysterious ways.

Yep, and in all the cases in the US where the miners were killed.

I think smart people got these guys out. And plain good luck.

Great news no matter!

Reminded me a little of the Apollo 13 mission.

Also, when the US pilot got shot down in Bosnia and they found him after several days. They'd almost given up when they finally found him. They went in with choppers and planes and a couple hundred men and got him.

Something just real uplifting about a bunch of people doing what it takes to save a few.

Hmm, doesn`t always end that well. Remember Lassing, Austria 1998. 10 men walked in to get 1 out. All 10 were killed while after 10 days without food, beverage and complete darkness the one that they went in for was rescued out safely with nothing more than lung and kidney problems. He`s physically healthy today, but a psychic wreck. 10 of his buddies died because they wanted to save him.

Personally I don`t think God has anything to do with however things like these end. Chile spend 20 Million Dollars and really WANTED to get the guys out. They put all their effort and cleverness into it. And don`t forget - the circumstances were really good. In Austria they had pressure problems, they could have never done what was technically possible in Chile (good geology, hard rocks etc.).

A whole nation (Chile) stood behind this project and got their buddies back. Congratulations Chile.

Graham. I feel that your comment above has absolutely nothing to do with the original post and is a good example of why we should all take care to respect forum rule #9.

Very true. Most of the time things go very badly. All the more reason to be thankful to the men and women who pull off a successful rescue.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
