Maybe it's time for another "suicide mission." It worked last year for a couple of months.

John?

I just got this comment on the MIA thread. The poster was DStumm. I've done a "Print Screen" command and saved it in case they deleted it. I'll send it to anyone who wants a copy.

Some of you may remember that I mentioned a thread that was posted about a year ago suggesting that I committ suicide and gave a detailed list of reasons why I should. They were actually pretty convincing! If I'd been a weaker minded individual, I may have taken their suggestion. After all, it was a compelling argument.

The only person who commented on it was silvertones, although a few others viewed it.

I did end up leaving the forum for a couple of months because of it, which is in line with the current comment.

I sent a PM to the actual person I thought was responsible, and the post was deleted in about a minute. That may have been coincidental, or maybe not.

I don't remember if the poster was the same or not, and unfortunately I didn't take a screen shot the first time.

Any ideas?

Maybe PG can trace it?

I don't Bob, it's downright creepy. I hope you contact the mods - even call PG if you have to and get to the bottom of this. It's hard to believe something like that going on here. Again, creepy.

I read bobcflatpicker's post and was stunned.
In my life I discovered corruption in local politics/ medical circles over my enforced early retirement and have been professionally and personally destroyed because I want answers. Various "professional" individuals too tell me to "end it all" but not in writing sadly, only verbally.
IT IS a hard time and that "s" word is not one to throw about, as Bob says

I can sort of understand this sort of reaction as politicians and so called professionals fight me and try anything to deny their wrong doing, by destroying me, BUT comments like this on an internet music forum leave me speechless.

I hope the perpetrator is discovered and removed from this forum.
And as Sundance says

I'm on your side, Bob.

I can trace 4 posts by Dstumm. 3 of them are music-related and coherent with the threads they where made in. The one Bob is referring to is odd. There also seems to be missing 1 post, since the postcount is 5 where I can trace only 4.

Due to the fact that we don't know the person behind Dstumm, we don't know in which light to see his/her remark. So we can't be sure what the intention of the remark is (or was supposed to be)

@Dstumm: If you're still around, please introduce yourself and elaborate the point you where trying to make. If your point was what it seems to be; don't bother to come back at all! (my personal opinion)

@Bob: I'm on your side!

I can’t say for sure that this is the same guy that made the original suicide post, but I do remember that it was a new user and that the screen name started with a capital D. Since they deleted the thread, that would account for the missing post.

I don’t think asking DStumm to stay away will do much good, because if my suspicions are correct about who the person actually is, they’re here every day. I won’t say who I think it is because I don’t know for sure and I don’t want to falsely accuse someone.

As Josie said, it’s “downright creepy” to say the least.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of hate and anger in our so called civilization.

The media even promotes it. You have political propaganda TV, violent fictional TV shows, violent movies, gangsta culture, and even violent sports, and in all of this, being violent and even hateful seems to be heroic. WTF is that all about? Why do we even watch it, as that only promotes it?

To me this is the very antithesis of civilization.

We must all rise above it if we want to become civilized.

How to do that? I have no idea.

I don't agree with censorship, so how do we get that off the air? We can't rely on religion, as most religions seem to have their own fair share of hate and violence. We can't rely on self-censorship of the media, because they people obviously want it, as it wouldn't be there without viewers.

Do unto others? What's that?

The Golden Rule or ethic of reciprocity is a maxim, an ethical code, or a morality, that essentially states either of the following:

1. One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself
2. One should not treat others in ways that one would not like to be treated

And I'd add another (as I'm sure others have done before me)

3. Treat others the way they would like to be treated.

The ethic of reciprocity predates modern religion and was present in certain forms in the philosophies of ancient Babylon, Egypt, Persia, India, Greece, Judea, and China.

These rules along with the other moral rules that humanity have devised, (10 commandments etc.) are all devised to keep us from being nasty to each other. So is being nasty to each other part of human nature? Part of human nature we should strive to rise above?

People talk about "man's inhumanity towards man" and I really dislike that phrase, because it makes it seem like being cruel to another man is an exception, rather than the rule. But if you look throughout history, it is a story of mostly just that, including (in no special order) the Cro-Magnons vs. The Neanderthals, Hitler, Atilla, Idi Imin, the USA invading Iraq, USSR invading their equivalents, China invading their equivalents, Jack The Ripper, Bin Laden, the "new world" settlers against the natives (and most other "colonizers"), Napoleon, "Papa Doc", Ivan The Terrible, the human slave trade, WW I, WW II, Viet Nam, The Boston Strangler, The US "Civil" War, Charles Manson, Stalin, Hirohito, Phil Spector, O.J. Simpson, Columbine, Suicide Bombers, Steeple Snipers, rapists, thugs, rioters, the Normans invading England, the Turks invading Europe, the Crusades invading the Middle East, the Trojans in their horse, The Roman Empire, the Greeks before that, Enron stealing grocery money from grannies, the list goes on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on. Invade, enslave, rape, pillage, murder, etc., the history books are full of that.

Telling Bob to commit suicide is simply another black mark in a long history of the dark side of humanity.

I wish I knew how to get us to rise up over this. I suppose a lot of other people would like to know the solution as well.

Bob, try to rise above all that, and consider the source as coming from the dark side of humanity. I'm glad you're still here.

We should all put hate and intolerance aside and be kind to each other, even when we disagree. It's difficult, I know as I try to do the same but fail from time to time. We should neither commit nor approve of any violent action perpetrated against another, whether it is verbal, economic, or physical. If we can do all this, we can truly become a civilized society instead of one dominated by barbarians.

My best recommendation is to ignore pleas from people who want you to commit suicide. I can honestly say they are not speaking in your best interest.

There actually was a case outlined in the media years ago about a guy claiming to be a medical professional who frequented forums populated by depressed people and tried to talk them into suicide. They actually succeeded.

Here's another one:

I'll stick to music forums.

Life is the most precious gift there is, and to suggest one end it, is more that despicable. Even if what was said was some kind of dark humor, it is tasteless to say the least. We are all going to disagree on many subjects, not like what some have to say, and or believe, but even when you do not like someone due to their views, you should never wish that they lose their life. Much less suggest they take their own, in a sad and disturbing way.

My best suggestion to you Bob is that you ignore this person completely, and if you see another thread with similar content, do not read it. Remember that whether others agree or disagree with your views, post, and or ideas, in general most folks here appreciate you as a forum member, and certainly value your life.

Heck no one agrees with half i say here, but i hope they don't mind if I stick around for a while. Dang if you were gone who would sucker us into crazy post that amuse, provoke and totally mess with the erst of us.

It is time for a little flatpickin!!!!!!

It's never good to feed the trolls.

At least the fool has had the sense to refrain from 'contributing' to this thread.

It's still never good to feed the trolls.

Perhaps we should all 'Ignore' him?

The best advice for sure.I do not like some of the more controversial subjects but I to value you as a Forum member. It's insane to wish that anyone end their life.

Well the comment was immature to say the least so it sounds like we are dealing with a youthful offender. He/she is probably sitting back gleefully enjoying the stirring of the pot. Since a reaction was what he was looking for, he is quite happy now.

I note that the user ID is not a frequent poster so he either doesn't have a lot of interest in the forums or he has another ID and uses the Dstrumm name as a throw away. Most forum software has the capacity to identifiy IP addresses and block them should PG music decide it wanted to do that. If it were me Bob, I'd hit the ignore button which I use infrequently but works wonders for shutting off annoying people. I'd never give a wise@$$ what they want either by commenting back to them or leaving the forum for even a short time.

My two cents worth.

I can think of a dozen reasons to commit suicide most any time. Bet most anybody can. I just ignore them.

Loudon Wainwright III says it's painless but I don't think he really knows for sure either.
