I'm not sure if what I am trying to do is possible. So again I find myself here at this wonderful
Forum. I am still unable to get the chord durations exactly how I want them. I am using the "Shot" feature
in Song Settings>Chord Settings>Rest>Shot. But I am still unable to get the "short chord burst" to sound like I want it to sound.

Example Tune: The Intro to Wes Montgomery's JINGLES. JINGLES INTRO Em/G - A7/G

My question about Piano Roll is this: I have tried to enter chords into BIAB and then open the Piano Roll and
edit the Chord Durations More Precisly there. But when I open them back up in BIAB the alterations aern't saved. What am I doing wrong ? Is this even possible ???? I want more options in editing CHORD DURATIONS in BIAB. Is this possible ???

Thanks in advance guys

Hello,

After editing the notes in the Piano Roll, right-click on the track you edited and select 'Freeze Track'. That way, your edits will stick.

Thanks Andrew.

I tried this and I still can't reproduce the chord shots/durations from Wes Montgomery's Jingles Intro.
I guess this may be at least one Limitaion of BIAB. Or can it be that I am simply overlooking
this basic feature of choosing note durations...ie whole, half, quarter.....

Yes, I'm using Real Tracks / Real Drums. And they sound great. Just don't have the freedom of setting
precise chord durations.

Check Out the Video Link below. It shows exactly what I am looking for in BIAB.
I am thinking that BIAB has to have these BASIC Note Duration Features.
I just can't find them.

EXAMPLE OF PRECISE CHORD/NOTE DURATION

Ok thanks. Moved the video clip to my youtube account. Try it now. Hopefully you guide me to these
precise Note/Chord Duration adjustments in BIAB.

Thanks in advance

Hi Bomberomusician,

If I'm interpreting your post correctly, I suspect that your problem arises from the fact that Realtracks cannot be controlled at note level. MIDI, on the other hand, can be. (Andrew's post above refers to using MIDI data.)

Realtracks are recorded phrases of music and when these are used in a BIAB arrangement, the phrases are chopped, shuffled and seamlessly matched with one another to give an accompaniment. It is because RTs are musical phrases that it's not possible to use them to play a note-based melody. (If you go to one of the Realtracks folders and listen to one of the wma files, you'll hear what I mean.)

From what I'm reading in your post, you want to control the Realtracks on a note-by-note basis. The only way that I can see that you might be able to do this is to use a DAW, isolate the notes you want within the musical phrase, edit them and manipulate them with stretching to be the length you want. I'd imagine that while this sounds easy enough in theory, it would be more challenging in practice. The other alternative is to see if it might be possible to use a MIDI-based solution.

Regards,
Noel

Thanks for the reply Noel.

No, what I am trying to do is have more control over the Chord Durations. ( Not Individual Notes )
For example: Unless I am over looking something in BIAB Song & Chord Settings the only choices that
BIAB gives me are Rest > Rest Types = No Rest > Rest Only > Shot & Hold Chord.
These are the only settings that I have found that has to do with Chord Durations.
Are there no settings in BIAB that control actual Chord Durations ie Whole , Half, Quater & S0-on.
Did you see the video example above that showed the Guitar Midi program that has the capability of
controlling the durations ? This is what i am looking for in BIAB.

Hi Bombermusician,

I've seen your Youtube clip and I'm pretty sure that we are talking about the same thing. I interpret what I'm seeing as your asking if chords can be entered for the length of specific note values.

In BIAB chords can be entered on quarter note beats as the minimum unit. Nothing smaller than this is possible without using some specially developed styles. (Norton Music produces some such styles for MIDI.) With this in mind, it's possible to use two, three or four beats for a chord thus a chord could a quarter note long, a half note long, a dotted half note long or a whole note long.

If you are working in MIDI, it's possible to manually enter your chords using the snap feature in Piano Roll view. By entering MIDI chords manually, you could get chords to play as small a value as a 32nd note. I stress, though, this has to be done manually, building up a chord note by note, BIAB will not enter chords automatically to this tolerance.

Realtracks can only be entered as a minimum value of a 1/4 note.

Hope this helps clarify things,
Noel

Noel,

Thanks for the information. I am going to experiment in the Piano Roll a little more.
And I will check out that Norton Site. I still haven't been able to add Real Tracks /Drums
to any Midi that I have imported to BIAB. And yes, the styles feature was enabled.

Thanks again Noel

Can you please step me through your process of how you load the MIDI, how you attempt to load RTs, etc? Please be as explicit as you possibly can so that I can duplicate your actions every step of the way. This will allow me to try and work out what the problem is.

Regards,
Noel
