Here's a song I did last April or May, it's one of the first songs I did with the PGmusic software, I think I was using 2009.5 I wrote it for my beautiful wife back in the early 1980's whilst trying to wooo her. It must have worked since this Nov. will make 27 years. All RT's except a guitar part I have in there against the banjo solo. I haven't posted it earlier 'cause I'm not that thrilled with the vocal track (redid it many times). I should probably do it in A instead of C... but it feels weird to play it there since I originally wrote it in C... And dammit, it didn't use to be that hard to sing in that key! But maybe others won't think it's as marginal as I do. (then again they might) I'll probably eventually lower the key, regenerate everything, and re-do the vocal tracks, but till then here it is. Hi Greg,
I really like the uplifting, uptempo groove you have happening here. Sincerity shines in your singing. Some appealing chord changes, too. The vocals didn't sound strained to me at all. If you had not mentioned that this was a difficult key for you, I would not have known!
I thoroughly enjoyed the listen.
Congratulations on the nearly 27 years!
All the best, Noel

Nice song! There's a bit of straining going on, but you're close enough on pitch that it's not a problem. I certainly prefer it to trying to pitch correct it! But you do got a strong vibrato on held notes at the end of words. It's funny, because for sustained pitches in the middle of words you don't do it, and you're not running out of air. So it seems like you've got the vocal control, but you just back of when you're at the end of the word. It sounds... nervous, but it's not really that bad. I think if you focus on keeping the vibrato down, it'll make a difference in the vocals. I scoop my notes, go flat toward the end, and have excessive vibrato. So you're way ahead of me!

Hey guys, Thanks for the comments, I appreciate it. Noel, Thank you so much, my wife thanks you too. David, Me and my vibrato have been in a battle for control for many years now! I used to sound like Cher. But you do give me hope pointing out: "It's funny, because for sustained pitches in the middle of words you don't do it, and you're not running out of air. So it seems like you've got the vocal control, but you just back off when you're at the end of the word." I never really noticed this myself till you pointed it out...Gives me hope that if I can control it in the middle of words, I should be able to at the end as well. Anyway guys, thanks for the listen Greg

Hey Greg,
Regarding your comments about vibrato ...
Have you ever tried recording a song without vibrato. I'd love to hear the comparison. You've got a good, steady pitch control happening that probably doesn't need supporting by vibrato.
Regards, Noel

Noel,
As it turns out, I have tried... Here's what I'd say is my best attempt to date. http://www.mymusicstream.com/gregachord/song-8407218676892.html I was making a conscience attempt (ok, actually I was trying really hard ) to curb the vibrato on this song.

Hi Greg,
This sounded good! Your singing sounded very much like the "talking in pitch" approach to singing that Beth Nielsen Chapman was promoting at a seminar I went to in 2010. When this approach works, it works incredibly well.
Thank you for posting the link. I appreciated the opportunity to hear it.
Regards, Noel

Hi Greg,
What a feel good song! If you'd sang that to me back then I'd have married you myself LOL! Seriously congrats on 27 years.
As far as vibrato goes, my opinion, sing in a more comfortable pitch and it takes care of itself in your case. On many of my old songs I have to bring them down a half or whole step from the key they were originally written. You pulled it off - it was just a teeny bit strained to me especially in the beginning.
Enjoyed it!
