So I'm trying to setup a DS % al Coda. I used the Repeat/Codas menu option. This is how I set it up:
http://screencast.com/t/nWZ2H6qo3w

The "to coda +" mark is supposed to be at the end of bar 48 which is absent and I dont' know how to specify and instead one sees the coda marking which is meant to demarcate the coda section . The actual coda section is meant to start at 52.

My conclusion is that BIAB allows me to specifiy:

the segna (sign) position
the DS % al Coda marker
the start of the Coda section

but does not allow me to specify the "go to Coda" directive regardless of the language used in the dialog and instead marks the start of the coda section.

I have a feeling that I can finish this by using a "tag" but didn't find any reference to that in the section that explained the DS al Coda feature.

Anyhow, it would be clumsy if I had to do that but I need to ,anybody please explain or guide me to tutorial content that is specific about how to fully complete setting up a DS al Coda.

thanks

-Charles

Another way is to click on the S button to the right of the Title bar. There you have the options for simple endings. Later, Ray

Rachael:

thanks, but in the example provided there for DS al Coda , I still can't tell how its specified that the coda section starts at bar 31. Somewhere , there's an assumption of an ending being specified. In my case my ending is basically 16 bars long. 8 bars and then 8 bars with a fade.

So my question is:

1. Where do I specify my ending.
2. Does it make sense that I would not specify it in the DS al Coda dialog? I guess there can only be one ending ?

thanks again

This is often a very confusing topic. People beat themselves over the head trying to figure this out. How about this...

Lay your song out in a linear fashion then see if the DS dialog will do what you want. This is basically what BIAB does beneath everything you lay on top such as repeats, endings, etc. I consider those there for convenience. Once you are confident the linear song is doing exactly what you want, you can then add the convenience feature I mentioned. If you use RealBand, you have to think this way.

I use repeats, etc only for my leadsheet printouts. My performance songs are all unfolded giving me precise control over everything.

Well, that's true. When recording everything is flattened out generally. Cubase does have that interesting "arrangement" track that allows you to specify sections and how mnny times a specific section will be played but I use that to help me develop the tune. By the time, its time to drop the completed tune the track is deactivated.

In this particular case I have the score for particular cover tune for which I really like the structure and so I was trying to input the score as is into BIAB and check it out on different styles. True I could flatten it out but my workflow would be smoother if I was just able to input it. BTW, this tune is complicated by the fact that it also has a couple embedded repeats which need not have been specified that way.

Thanks, I'll flatten it out and then try to retrofit the redirections for the exercise of it.

I haven't met a tune that I was not able to use DS etc for my printouts. The Repeats dialog has a checkbox to Generate (insert) new bars that makes re-entry of the chords unnecessary. By default (I think) this is unchecked. This is where lots of people go wrong. For your exercise, try a simple tune and play around with that dialog. Once you have a feel for it, it may become clearer how it works.

Out of curiosity, what song are you working on? Maybe you could post a link to the song where the forum could look at it and maybe help.

I will do so, the tune is Weather Report's Palladium and unfortunately I don't have a link. I purchased a sheetmusic book with the arrangements for "best of weather report" don't remember the exact title , don't have that in front of me.
