I have selected a VST instrument (Applied Acoustics, Acoustic Struming)to use on a MIDI track. I want it to play a specific patch from its library.
I also want to use this same instrument on another MIDI track in the same composition but using a different patch.
The first track uses patch 3 on the first use of the VST plugin.
On the second track I want to use patch 5 on the second use of the plugin.
Even though there are 2 occurances of the same plugin on 2 seperat tracks if I change the patch number on one of them it changes the patch to that same number on the other one.
Does this mean I can only use 1 occurance of 1 plugin per composition?

You have to set each track to a different MIDI channel.

Tried that.....no difference. The midi channel does not seem to impact in the plugin.....I mean, even if you select different channels, say, 1 and 16, they will both act on the same instance of the plugin even if you have loaded it in twice.
You can see this if you look at the VST instrument list. There is only 1 occurance of the plugin showing there, indicating that any midi channel will all be using the same plugin at the same time.
Tiss sure a mystery..........for sure.

Are you opening the second synth on another port?
Right-click the track, select 'port'. then select a different dxi port number (towards the bottom of dropdown), then assign the second instance of the synth to that port number.

In RB when you open the synth rack (DXI) button, it has several slots, open the synth in two separate slots and assign one track to one and the other to the second one.
HP Win 11 12 gig ram, Mac mini Sonoma with 16 gig of ram, BiaB 2025, Realband, Reaper 7, Harrison Mixbus 9 32c , Melodyne 5 editor, Presonus Audiobox 1818VSL, Presonus control app.

Now here's the strange thing..........I tried using the second track slot in the drop down. I selected a new occurance of the synth and it appeard to load OK, but then it reverted back to original synth in the first slot leaving just the radio button selected but nothing in that slot.
I'm assuming from your comments that you have all tried this and it works OK? You can have 2 occurnaces of the same synth and select different patches in each of those synths...correct?
In which case it seems only me that has this problem..............or has anybody else have this?
Just tried it again...same thing. This time I was using Edirol Orchestrol.

I am sorry i kind of misled you a bit. Not the second slot of the synth rack, but the second slot in the list. The top drop down list all the possibilities where synths can be loaded. Then each gets a rack so you can add effects after them.

Open the DXi synth slot for the track, and then in the top slot load the synth a second time. But make sure you are on a different port number, or you will be changing the synth for the other port.
