Hello, my name is Guillermo, I'm from Argentina. I am interested to buy Band in a Box to compose music for my animated short.
Is it possible to create music with Band in a Box (using styles and solos provided by the program) to include in a film that could become commercial? "The music created with the styles and solos of Band in a Box, which is copyrighted by PG Music Inc., or belongs to the person making it?

Thank you very much
Guillermo.

What you make belongs to you. The company has said this many times here on the forum.

I'm not speaking for the company, but I can say I have seen them state this. No worries as far as that goes.

Thanks! I posted because I hear about "copyrighted styles from PG Music"... Is this related to the question I've posted?

In http://www.jazzguitar.be/forum/recording-music-software/28-band-box-songs.html I read:

"Due to the recent spate of copyright protection lawsuits and threats of lawsuits that have been going around, a number of sites that used carry significant numbers of BIAB transcriptions have been shut down by their owners, to avoid the potential legal hassles. There was a great French site that had all sorts of BIAB songs but it is no longer available. This is the same thing that happened to the guitar tablature sites like OLGA."

Those are referring to "BiaB Transcriptions".

By this I think they mean that songs that other people have wrote (hit songs) have been transcribed so they can be played in BiaB. This would violate copyright of the original song for the songwriter.
Much like if I wrote a song, and then you made a BiaB file of my song, it would be infringement. Even if I created my song in BiaB, it is still my song. You can't publish 'transcribed' copies of my song without my permission.

Sorry, but what about this?:

"In general, in this day and age, just about any audio software that uses samples and loops grants a "royalty free" license, meaning you are given a license to use the samples and loops in an original composition without having to pay for additional licensing beyond the cost of the software. However, one thing you are usually *not* allowed to do is to use the software to create new loops and samples based on the old ones and resell those. Some will even have a clause that you cannot use the loop or sample in a manner where it is played 'alone' for more than 2-5 seconds without other sounds mixed with it, implying that it could be sampled by someone else and used illegally."

That is what you do with BiaB. You use their realtracks in an original song.

However, if you were to take one of the raw files (realtrack recordings used in the program) from inside BiaB and try to sell it, there may be an issue because you have created nothing. None of what you would be selling is 'yours'.

If you use it write a song then you have created something and own it.

PGMusic has stated publicly before - what you create using BiaB is yours.
You own the rights to it. Many people have used BiaB on commercial projects, then came on the forum and publicized it. I have seen the owner congratulate them on their work. I have never ever heard of a problem like the one you are worried about.

If you want to read their statement for yourself it is here -
