How to record bass using AudioRecord effectively?
Bass recording requires EQ, Cut some frequencies,
Compression.

I quess that same questions apply to other instruments
too (vocal, guitar).

Manipulating those parameters afterwards is another story
and makes original recording worse.

Any tips or tricks?

I never record a bass thru the speaker, the soundwaves are too big and take a bit to develop.
Line out of amp/FX pedal or using a direct box is preferred here.

There is a lot of bass content in the bottom range (60-120 Hz) and again around 2kHz. Don't lose the top end. There is a lot of character there. Losing these frequencies makes the bass have a lot less charater. An old saying is a bass track should sound like they are working on a buick in the background. This is true in my experience.
Also I often roll off the very bottom end, cutting from 40Hz-50Hz on down. Helps to clean the bass up and make it clearer.

Often there is a compressor used in the amp/FX pedal when recorded thru the line out. If so this will often suffice. If not, I have no qualms about using one in the computer. Actually PGMusic comes with the PGDynamcs plugin which has some nice bass presets as a starting point. One of the better preset selections in the whoe suite of plugins IMHO.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Thank you for helping my bass recording case.

How should I use effect PGDynamics? During recording or playback?

Could you give more accurate example, if I have amp/mic recorded dry bass track in RB.
What audio effects should I use and how as newcomer in recording?
step 1, step 2 etc.

I have tried some of those a long time ago, but recording got
worse. You need to know right parameters and effects

Open the PGDynamics plugin and try a few of the bass presets like 'inconsistent touch' on tracks you already have recorded. See if you like any of them. Maybe compression isn't what you need, maybe it is. It's too hard to give suggestions for settings without being able to hear the source.

Compression is something you have to tinker with a bit to get a handle on.

Yesh,

> cutting from 40Hz-50Hz on down. Helps to clean the bass up and make it clearer.

But how do I do that "cutting" with RealBand the way it shold be done? There are audioeffects.

Couldn't you use the parametric EQ?

Yesh,

First CUT
Then BOOST

But RB Help file for Parmetric EQ is very helpfull saying nothing to newcomer. Even a simple
example could make some sense how to Cut and Boost in ranges.

[Help file]
Frequency-- The center frequency of each EQ section.

Bandwidth-- The relative width of each section. One hundred percent bandwidth is approximately one octave wide. Ten percent bandwidth is about one tenth of an octave wide, and 200% bandwidth is about two octaves wide.

Gain-- The boost or cut of each band. If Gain of a band is set to zero, that filter is not calculated. So if you only need two bands of correction, leave the other bands at zero and the equalizer will ignore the unused bands, finishing faster.

Use the 10 band graphic EQ then. Simple enough.

In the Tracks Window select your Bass Audio Track - right click and select "Track Catagory > Pick/Bass > Bass and select to load Effects. This operation with load a basic setup for Dynamics and EQ with which you can experiment to find the settings most appropriate to your track.
