I just purchased PTW 2011 and downloaded it. It asked for the driver and I chose ASIO. Now I get an error message that says "Your ASIO driver uses a MAC-based datd format. This program does not support MAC-Based formats."
That was the only choice I had other than none. If I choose none, should PWT work for me?

It is not a mac. It is a HP Pavilion dv6-3225dx laptop. I just bought this computer last week and have looked at the specs for a sound card, but if it's there, it does not identify a sound card.
I copied and pasted the specs. I hope this isn't too overwhelming:

Well there is a soundcard in that thing. Did you try MME instead of ASIO? It ain't gonna have ASIO drivers.

After downloading it, it began having choose midi drivers and such. The first thing it had me do was select a driver and my only choice (I thnk) was ASIO. I think it even prompted me and informed me I had a ASIO driver and asked if that is what I wanted to use.....I think!
I would like to get back to where I made that choice and check for sure, but I can't figure it out.

Go to options-preferences-audio and check it. In that same window, click the 'drivers' button and see what is available for audio input and output. If ASIO, it should say so.
You could go back one window and try to change it to MME, you may be able to change it back and forth and see the messages again if you want. Or maybe the new driver replaced the old generic one that came with the system...
I take it PT runs fine now?

You could also trying downloading ASIO 4 ALL and see if that works for you if you really want the better clock timing.

Good luck with taking it back to the store  I could not get asio4all to work with PT 12. Kept getting error messages about the MIDI driver. Tried it in another DAW and it made a HUGE difference. I can now use my MIDI keyboard to enter notes realtime. With MME each note took a whole second.
