I've looked through the help topiics and can find nothing on the follow issue. How do you tie a note through three measures? No problem tieing two notes. Example: Last note of the first measure a 1/16, first note of the second measure a hole note, first note of the third measure a 1/14 note. Of course, all three notes are the same. Thanks in advance. RM

You could go into the Editable Notation mode, right-click on the note, and adjust the duration.
The note length can also be dragged in the Staff Roll Notation Mode.
BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Slate VSX, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

Thanks Matt.
It worked for me in Staff Roll Notation Mode.

I bring this topic up again. I can't seam to get it to work no matter what I try. In this case I have a 1\8th note at the end of the first measure, a whole note in the second measure and a 1\8th note at the beginning of the third measure. All the same note.
I've tried changing the note by right clicking and changing the duration to 5. No workie. I went to Staff Roll Mode. Right clicked on the first 1\8th note and dragged it to the first position in the third measure. This erases the first 1\8th note and the whole note. I'm probably doing this wrong or have something wrong in the Options.
Secondly, how do you create 16\th notes when in Swing Mode? The tune has both triplets and 16\th notes.
Thanks for the help

I'm not in front of a BIAB computer to try your first question, but as to the second: You can toggle swing/straight feel within a song. See this FAQ: http://www.pgmusic.com/techfaq23.htm#25Note that sometimes you can get it to sound right, but not look right.

Matt. Thanks for that reference to the FAQ. I now remember that's how I did it before.
Let me know what you find on my other issue.

Hi GuildGuitarist,
Instead of trying to tie the three notes, you should delete the 2nd and third notes and just edit the first one to make it longer.
Once you have those other notes out of the way try either of the edit methods you tried before.
In the staff roll method, make sure you don't let go of the right button before you drag.
Jim

Hi Randy, From what I read about tying notes, it sounds like you want something similar to the below to be produced. When I want something unusual like this, I always set it up in Piano Roll view (that is, clicking on the highlighted icon in the picture below). What I do is simply add a note in notation mode, switch to Piano Roll mode and then drag the right edge of the note across for as long as I want it to be. (You can see the dragged note above.) Another way of doing this is to use "Staff Roll Notation Mode". Highlighted below. In this mode, simply right-click on the note-head, hold the right button of your mouse down, and drag to the right for as long as you want the note to play. Below is what the above notated music looks like in "Staff Roll Notation Mode". Hope this helps, Noel

Using these techniques, you can get it to sound right. But, sometimes, the notation will not look right.

Looks just perfect here. Note, there are checkboxes in the Notation Options dialog such as 'Minimize Rests' and 'Engraver Spacing' etc.

First off, thanks everyone for their help and comments.
Noel, I got it to work in the Piano Roll Mode. Thanks for that one. I guess the problem in Staff Roll is absolutly nothing happens when I "Right" click on the note. It's as if my mouse isn't programmed to use that function. No matter, I got it to work in Piano Roll. Never used that feature before. Thanks

Randy,
I don't think that I explained myself very well in relation to Staff Roll Mode. It needs to be a right-click on the center of the note-head. When you click, do not let the mouse button. Hold it down and drag the mouse horizontally to the right. Then release the button. This will extend the note's length.
Regards, Noel

Would you use this method if you wanted 32nd notes? If not, how?

I would probably lengthen the duration of the chords and adjust the tempo so that what used to go in one measure now goes into two, and use sixteenth notes. Also, Norton Music created and sells Expanded Styles to help do just that.
I rarely need 32nd notes. Any particular song that you are doing this way?

It's an original Bbm, 12 bar blues. The 11th measure has two 32nd notes. I'm not that concerned about how it sounds in BIAB. I really need it to print correctly.
I'm Ok with dotting the eight and adding a line to the two 16th notes. Not really a big deal. I needed the information for anything else down the road..
You've been a great help and I really appreciate all your effort helping this old guy.
