Wow- what an amazing talent and beautiful lady. I just stumbled across her on YouTube and was completely mezmerized.
Now I am trying to wean my 9-year old daughter off the Disney-Clone merry-go-round of Hannah Montana, Demi Lovato, Victoria Justice, etc (not that they aren't all talented, just kind of homogeneous, predictable, formulaic- take your pick).
If enough parents work together to expose their kids to all the good music that exists outside the mainstream I think that would be a good thing. Whatever that might be.

I saw her live in a small jazz club in Santa Cruz Ca. maybe 6 yrs ago.
She was maybe in her early 20's and performing in a small intimate
venue of maybe 150 packed house.
Truly outstanding.

If you ask my 11 year old who his favorite musicians are he will answer, not necessarily in this order:
Stevie Wonder
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
Zander Zon (look him up on YouTube then buy his self-made CD on CDBaby)
Lecrae
John Coltrane
They Might Be Giants
Some of that is mainstream - if it's good and it's mainstream, I'm not opposed. Some is clever, some is relaxing (Ben likes to listen to Coltrane and Zander Zon to chill out).
His friend Aaron has an iPod inherited from his dad with nothing but 60's pop, soul and R&B on it. Guess what he likes listening to? His fave: Petula Clark.
These are 5th grade boys. There is hope for the future of musical tastes.

Yeah, a friend introduced me to Jane a few years back. I agree, she's great, and anything but formula. Kudos to trying to get them the heck off the whole Hannah Montana type stuff!
