Hi guys, I was given a LYNX ONE soundcard yesterday as it was surplus to the studios requirements. It's installed fine and windows does recognise it. I can see the audio signal as a wav file plays but can't get sound through my cans. There's no audio jacks on the card just a D socket & an audio socket. Is there a way for me to re-route the sound and use the front module for my Terratec DMX fire card for its sound output & mike input ? I don't want to have to buy a mixing console as I don't have any mikes that would fit the sockets on the cables I got either. All I got was the install cd and the cable with 6 leads on it. Male to female D plug, clock jacks, midi jacks etc...

Before I start getting ridiculed, I wasn't offered this soundcard. I asked for it. It had been in use for a short time at the hospital radio studio where I help out. It was removed simply because the engineer who installed it into the desk has left the service. The regular updates for the software kept knocking off the automated music that was playing through it when nobody was there. I phoned the vice chairman of the group and asked to buy it. He told me just to take it.

Graham, no offense was intended. It sounds like a thoroughly competent piece. I hope it works as well for you as my attempts at online humor often do not.

Does not one end of your leads plug into the card?
From there you might have to take rca cables to your amp then it goes to the speakers.
Or do you have speakers that take a plug from the computer and they have a wee amp built in?
You should be able to find a pdf manual on line for it.
I'm shooting in the dark here, but it's just 1 p.m. and the North American contingent may be at work.

I DO have the leads John but I don't have a console or pre amp, that's the biggest problem

Is the "console" you are referring to what we would call a "breakout box"? If so, the audio card is useless without it. However, if you just need a pre-amp with RCA or XLR outs, most budget mixers will suffice for that. Helpful?

You know, sometimes the lines are just there for the taking and a wise guy at my level of wise guy can't pass them up.... knowing I should maybe 70& of the time, I do it anyway.....
Try someone with bigger cans.....

It's worth investing in any additional bits Graham, Lynx cards have a VERY good reputation in terms of audio fidelity.

Is there a way to re-route the Lynx through the pc without the need for a mixer ?

Put in "Slovenian" where you said "Scottish" and I am right there with you brother!!! I buy EVERYTHING second or third hand. I go to bakery outlet stores for bread, shop yard and estate sales, flea markets, and every piece of equipment in my studio is used from private sellers. And that entails like 11 guitars, 3 horns.... I have nothing new except my computer. I even choose to have only rescued dogs!!
Today is my birthday. So far I have taken advantage of THREE freebies, with 2 more on tap for later in the day. Breakfast, lunch and afternoon ice cream come were all birthday freebies! Dinner tonight will be as well, and a second ice cream treat on the way home.
So bless your good fortune of getting a free piece of hardware that you will get good use out of!
And I still prefer "careful with my money" and "smart shopper" to "cheap", but by this age, really, who cares?

Jeez ed, that's a nice cake beside your name at the top. H.B. 2 u! Mines on the 4th of July and the people to the south let off fireworks to celebrate mine!
I spent a week in Scotland at the end of March. Mostly on Islay and Skye. A 60 year old backpacker and his young bride of 25 years. I thought I'd say Ach Aye forever, tis more pervasive than the Canadian eh?
We lucked out with 25 Degree (Over 70) weather every day for 3 weeks in Europe. All sun, no cloud to even speak of.
I found out why people left the Islands to come here. It's beautiful but no place to earn dime one. You'd have to be cheap. And like sheep.
Ach Aye lassie take yer lambie and move a wee bit so Jack can get ma car past ach aye, there's a lass...it's a he-way aftall.
Love those roads that are one lane, no speed limit, and a little place to wait for the truck coming at you, miss the sheep ACH AYE!
