Hello,
Just noticed that 2011.5 has been released. I have already got the 2011 ultrapak. When looking at the new features for 2011.5 it says that there is now a mixer window. Will this offer me any more functionality other than I have got already in 2011? I usually just get the style right in biab anyways and then just do the song adding more realtracks and rendering in realband.
As regards same but different realtracks feature if there isn't 2 tracks of a particular realtrack in a song then I take it the feature doesn't apply?

2nd question, Yes.
1st question, I think it would be fair to say the mixer offers better functionality rather than more functionality. After only a few days, I can't imagine going back. However, I spend most of my time in BIAB and if you do all your mixing elsewhere, then the feature is indeed less valuable for you.
Don't overlook 2011.5 for its other improvements.

The mixer applet has changed the way I use band in a box.
My stuff is sounding better than ever, and it's so easy to tweak things that I too cannot imagine going back. I see this getting better and better. I leave the mixer parked top right and am in the process of going back through folders of my favorites 'fixing' the mix. Once you get it, if you use band in a box, I predict you are going to love it.

Mixer provides the same functionality as the main spin buttons no more than this. Its really good to see PG providing a mixer, but this must be considered to be an early basic model. If you are expecting a fully fuinctionasl mixer then you might have to wait.
I will use it, its better than spin buttons, but I was hoping for something better.
I do hope this is strictly a first version.

It is Z. I don't know the details but Peter said there's some enhancements coming soon as an update and probably more later as it evolves.

I'm really glad to see a mixer "effort", but am sadly unimpressed. With the 2011 "mixer" you pick the track, then have free access to adjust any aspect of that track. With the new 2011.5 mixer you pick the aspect, then have free access to adjust that aspect for any track. I like better, but I really want a mixer closer to RB where you can freely access every aspect of every track.
One real plus for the 2011.5 mixer, for me, is the ability to adjust the "combo" and watch its effect on the other tracks. I see it all a little more clearly.
Also, no big whoop, but there is no support (as far as I can see) for the Melody and Soloist Sequencer in the new mixer. That could be nice.

Not being difficult, but would this not be a serious overlap since RB is supplied with BiaB? I don't use RB myself, but it seems that this would be too much "cross pollination" between the 2....just thinking out loud is all....

Well, I was just saying what I'd like to see, and made the same request in the Wish List a while back. I don't see holding back on a RB-ish mixer in BIAB would be a serious anything, except improvement. Actually, more similarity in the look and feel of the two programs makes me more comfortable with both (I'm just talkin' like a marketing guy now).

>>> Well, I was just saying what I'd like to see, and made the same request in the Wish List a while back. I don't see holding back on a RB-ish mixer in BIAB would be a serious anything, except improvement. We didn't introduce track-based effects in BB with 2011.5, if that is what you were looking for. Those are present in RealBand. Here are things that you can do in BB's mixer that you cannot do in RealBand's mixer: - set audio reverb (simple slider) - tone control (treble/bass) - set patches (RealTracks, RealDrums, MIDI) - resize the mixer to any size you want, with all the elements scaling. - (option to) auto-hide the mixer (move it small and out of the way) during playback, so you can see the chords ================ Here are things that you can do in RealBand's mixer that you cannot do in BB's mixer: - assign custom F/X to each track, and use those to adjust things like audio reverb, or tone control ============== Note: We may add custom track-based F/X to BB in the future. This would use more CPU horsepower, and BB is doing lots of things already during playback, so its not highest item on the list. BTW, The offical 2011.5 video isn't ready yet, but here is a brief video showing the mixer. Mixer Video : http://screencast.com/t/zvZnjEr1

Hi Axeplayer, I haven't got the upgrade yet but just looking at the mixer demo it looks like it supports the ability to easily 'solo' more than one track at a time. The only way you could previously do this was to individually mute all the tracks you didn't want to solo. This will be a major productivity improvement for me.
Also the use of sliders for changing volume/pan/etc parameters rather than using the spinners or typing in absolute values looks like a much quicker and more intuitive way to work. Having the sliders move horizontally rather than verically is a bit of a culture change for people used to using traditional DAWS such as Cubase/Logic but this seems to work fine for users of Ableton/Garageband etc so it is probably something you will get used to pretty quickly.
I am looking forward to getting to play with it!
If I hadn't seen such riches I could live with being poor.

Now that I have used the 2100.5 mixer for more than two minutes I'd like to rephrase from my earlier post in this thread from "I like better" to "I like 100 times better" I see that most of the time I'm adjusting volume, and the new mixer is is great for that. And If I want to alter pans, then I need to click to get there - I can live with that.
Also being able to mute or solo so easily now is a real plus.
My notion of a "RB-ish" mixer is really all the functionality of the new BIAB mixer, except all aspects are visible and accessible at once - So I can both alter and see every setting for all tracks in one place. But I'm pretty happy as is - much better.

Wow I can't believe everyone doesn't just use Real Band right after you Biab a song! I never had until recently and am blown away at it's ease of use ! Just click open on your Biab file ,it loads slow but it's rendered ! Great Mixer and FULL track automation ! Cut and paste with resolution up high is very accurate, but you can highlight and drag anything to anywhere with crl and click-drag with over write or mix functions. Generate only the section of a track you don't like with a right click ! It loaded my other DAW's FX's so I knew sound settings right away ! It's way COOL ! Try it won't cost you anything extreee!
