Hello,

I have just got around to installing biab 2011.5 and get the following error message when opening biab
"access violation at 008F393D in module "BBW.EXE". Read of address at 00000000 at 008F393D" Get the same message when trying to open the mixer.

I have windows 7 32 bit and use the vsc dxi as my midi synth. I have also got the latest build of biab 328 and have tried to return to factory settings and reinstalling but no difference get the same message.

Just wondering is this something to do with windows 7 32 bit or maybe the vsc dxi?

Thanks for any help

The VSC DXi doesn't play well with Vista or Windows 7. I'd recommend either the Coyote Forte DXi or springing a few extra bucks for Cakewalk Music Creator, which includes the TTS-1 softsynth. Both cost about $40.

Thanks John for your reply. To be honest I like the sounds of the vsc dxi the best and I have tried the others thats why I went with a 32 bit windows so as I could continue to use it. Even though I select a synth other than the vsc I still get the same error message in 2011.5. Just trying to deal with those error messages now or else I will just have to go back to my 2011 which had no error messages.

thanks very much.

I have tried installing 2011.5 into my backup drive and I get the error but now at "access violation at 0091F945 in module "BBW.EXE". Read of address at 00000000 at 0091F945"

just the numbers are different.

Every time I open the mixer I get this error message and I have to click ok to continue, and then everything plays ok. Just wondering is there a way to turn off the white box error messages?

It does seem that its just the mixer opening that is causing this error message, nothing to do with choice of synths or anything else.

Hi axey,

If this was my problem, I'd try turning off the User Account Control (UAC) and then run BIAB to see if it makes a difference. UAC is found in Control Panel | User Accounts and has been known to produce errors similar to what you describe. By trying this, it helps to isolate the exact problem.

Also, I run VSC/DXi on Vista 32-bit and I haven't had any issues with either BIAB or RB.

All the best,
Noel

Thanks for reply Noel. I have it turned off anyways in control panel. Just wondering is there a way to stop the mixer loading with biab at startup? At least that would stop the error at startup.

Hi again,

Have you installed the latest update for BIAB?

To turn off the mixer, simply click a second time on the mixer icon on the menu bar.

Regards,
Noel

Thanks Noel. Got the latest update but still the error message when opening the mixer. Does the mixer open automatically everytime biab is launched? It launches every time I start biab at max size screen which I find annoying (after error message appears and I click ok) If it does start by default each time biab is launched then I don't really see the point in that as I feel the mixer only needs to appear when it's called for.

I take it PG test the program with all the currect versions of windows including windows 7 32 bit.

Thanks for all the help

Just sent an email to support with the above details. ALthough I know that it is mostly the uers fault I do think this may be a bug in biab for windows 7 32 bit.

thanks very much

Try Option-Return to Factory Settings.

Hi axey,

As I mentioned above, simply click on the mixer icon in the tool bar to close it (see image below).

When BIAB opens and the mixer opens with it, clicking on the mixer icon in the tool bar will close the mixer. Now exit BIAB with the mixer closed so that the information gets written to the appropriate start-up file. When BIAB is reopened, the mixer should no longer be there.

Hope this helps,
Noel

Thanks for replies. Noel I'm glad to say your suggestion to click the mixer icon on the toolbar to close the mixer has worked in that the mixer is no longer loading along with biab. I was clicking on the close X sign on the mixer dialog window as I thought it did the same job to close the mixer but it seems not, if I only click on the X then the mixer will close but load again after biab starts and the subsequent error messages first.

Peter thank you very much for having a look at this and your suggestion to return to factory settings, I have already tried that and reinstalled a number of times, but the error message when trying to open the mixer remains, I am very curious if this mixer problem is mainly confined to windows 7 32 bit. Maybe if you have that OS in the office somebody might give it a try, if not already done so. 2011 is running perfectly.

thanks very much

Personally, I would uninstall the VSC-DXi (whether you select it or not) and see if it's affecting your system. I remember having problems (now this was with Vista, but 32-bit) where just having it installed caused problems. If I recall correctly, BIAB will scan your DX(i) plugins upon opening, so that may be the problem. You can always re-install it later, if necessary.

Hi axey,

In addition to John's thoughts above, here's another thread that might offer some ideas. While the thread doesn't deal with VSC/Dxi directly, it does offer a process that could be applied to the VSC/DXi dll and BBE.exe files.

http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=282373&an=0&page=3

The gist of the article is about setting operating system compatibility (e.g. XP) by right-clicking on the appropriate file and selecting "Properties".

Good luck,
Noel

Thanks very much John Noel and Peter for your suggestionss, I really appreciate you all taking the time to help me. By the way I do have UAC turned off. I have tried everything suggested but no good, error messages still there.

To be honest I still have an inkling that its to do with windows 7 32 bit and I think I will just live with the errors and not use the mixer a lot. Thanks Noel for that suggestion about clicking the mixer again in the toolbar to close the mixer as clicking on the X in the mixer wasn't working. At least now biab will open without any errors and I will avoid using the mixer.

Would appreciate it though if anyone else with windows 7 32 bit or PG music could confirm if biab 2011.5 is working ok without error in that OS.

Thanks very much again

Hi,
I have windows 7 32 bit on my laptop and also have both the VSC/DXi and Coyote Forte DXi installed and can use both with no errors. The mixer opens with no errors either. As an experiment, I would try right-clicking on your BIAB icon and select "Run As Administrator" when you start BIAB and see if that makes a difference. Sometimes there can be file permission problems and "run as administrator" will grant the program full permissions.

Hope that helps,
Ed

Thanks very much Ed for confirming that 2011.5 runs fine on your windows 7 32 bit.I have tried what you said but it hasn't worked for me. Ah well guess I can live with that error message, more important things in the world.

Thanks to everybody who tried to help me. What a great forum.

Hi again folks,

Pleased to say I have discovered the source of the error when opening the mixer
The display properties in Personalize in my windows 7 is set at 150% with a screen resolution of 1280x960 Once I set display properties to 125% there is no error.

I do need this resolution in order to see the screen withlout difficulty. Hasn't caused any problems with Biab windows in the past and 2011 runs perfect under my preferred resolution, but the mixer at this resolution and 150% display setting will generate an error at opening. Updating the graphics card driver makes no difference.

Myabe PG might address this issue in an update as there is probably quite a few of us with less than perfect eyesight.

Thanks everyone for your kind help

axey

Thanks axey,
We'll try to fix that issue. Thanks for spotting it, and showing us how to duplicate it. We can duplicate it on one of our PC's, with that same resolution, and using maginfication.
