Hi Folks!

Very strange deal here.

I've noticed that when I drag/drop midi tracks to my DAW, it does some interesting things:

1) Drops multiple clips (in this case, a BASS track consisting of 4 clips)

2) The channels for all 4 clips are different!

Imagine the cachophony (spelling?)

My Motif had a field day.

You know, I was just wondering...WHY...is this so? Really? Come now, this is flow prohibative and frustrating (hey, well, welcome to the world of PC recording right? LOL )

Just a heads up though: After a period of soul searching, I figured...what the heck, let me "merge" these clips into ONE.

You see, one track had "most" of the recognizable data (from the song", the other had bits and pieces...and one seemed to have nary a note at all.

Then, I noticed...hey the main section has about one bar that's dead...yet, the other seems to have data to actually FILL it...so...I figured, sure, go ahead and merge that puppy.

In my initial case, this seemed to work "OK"...for now.

Granted, I'm new at this...and I couldn't find any options (other than actually SAVING the file itsef (midi 1 or midi 0).

Seems RB has a mind of its own.

Crazy.

Flan

You didn't say what you were dragging and dropping into. Also, have you seen the drag and drop video Peter put out showing the proper way to do it for various of the popular DAW's. It can be a little different for each DAW, not because the PGMusic apps do it wrong, but because each DAW wants to see the data a certain way.

Give us some more details.

Hi John,

I'm using Mackie Tracktion 3 (I think it's pretty cool, though it has been flamed a bit, and apparently has been disowned/discontinued by Mackie it seems). I like it well enough. I'm pretty sure I lack the mental capacity and time for anything or everything else probably...Cubase, Sonar...all that horsepower and PhD needed...wow.

I happen to view the video. I shall do so again to review...may have missed something.

I shall say at this point, Tracktion doesn't "seem" to have any file/preference tweaks regarding the subject. I can continue to dig.

Isn't everything supposed to work automatically without effort?

LOL

Sometimes I find myself in a love/hate relationship.

I love music, and at times, can really dislike the quirks of technology.

Oh...the analog days...*sigh*

No, wait, they weren't all that great either!

Psssst!

I'll mess with it...for now, if anything seems whacky...I'll just merge the darn clips and call it a day.

Thanks John,
Flan
