Will probably be adding a 37"-42" HD TV as a monitor to my desktop soon.
Already have 2 Niko 22" monitors on there.

Any recommendations as to a good hardware interface/connector to make this work so I can run desktop across all 3.
See several on the net but they have varying reviews.

If it works OK then working with Realband and Photoshop will be like I be died an gone to heaven.

Thanks for any input,
Carkins

Can you use the video card to run the dual 22" monitors? (I assume you are already)
If so use an HDMI output for the bigger screen, or a separate video driver, such as video card for dual monitors and onboard video for the other.

Or .. add another video card.

I'm sure it CAN be done. What OS?

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

make sure the power supply can handle it. I recently fried a computer by replacing a video card with one that required a larger power supply (which I didn't bother to upgrade)

Carkins,

I operate dual DVI monitors on my HP desktop system.

However on my Acer laptop is a piece of software that sets up,
up to 4 "pseudo monitors" per screen. Never used it, but on
a 47" Phillips HDMI TV like I have this may be very handy.
I can use the ACER as duplicate, or separate.
In a separate mode, you could probably drag certain open windows
to a particular quadrant on a quad screen setup.

I use the HDMI with laptop for Streaming movies, YouTube etc.

Hate the laptop for typing you need "Crab" hands to reach across the 3-4" of space.

Anyway just an idea for you.

Seeker.

I have a dual head video card that drives 2 monitors and COULD connect a third to the onboard VGA connector, so I think we all kind of agree the answer is yes.

Maybe... Quite often, when you use the Video card slot (be it AGP, PCI-e etc.), the on board video stops functioning.

To drive a large format TV you are best to use HDMI if you can. Certainly, it should be possible to install either a second video card or perhaps a triple head card. ATI and nVidia both have triple and quad offerings.

There is also an adapter from Matrox that might be of interest:
http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/
Gives single output laptops multiple monitor support.

FWIW I've been running 3 monitors on an XP box for years (at least 6 or 7) at my church (control screen, congregation display and foldback display).

You simply extend the desktop to cover the additional displays in the properties. Many video cards come with software to make managing desktops easier.

Am running Win XP on about a 7 yr old Dell Dimension 8400 tower and using the existing 2 ports on the stock SB Audiology 2 sound card.

Had to buy an adapter plug for one of the outputs to use the 2nd monitor.

Have seen some splitters advertised but some reviews say they dim the connected monitors.

Just found the Dell manual and it says there is an S-video slot on the card as well.
Would that work on the LED HD TV?

Would really like a setup like the NCIS MTAC war room but the centrifugal force would probably shatter my electric meter.

It sometimes does indeed. This particular motherboard allows me to select whether a video card defeats the onboard. I have seen them where the VGA slots turns off the onboard but not a PCI slot so a dual head PCI card may be needed here. A lot depends on the mobo.

I somehow doubt you're plugging monitors into a sound card...

Sounds like a DVI to VGA...

What kind of splitter - probably not what you want - I've seen devices that will spread the same image across multiple monitors but they are usually distribution amps.

S-Video won't give you good resolution on a screen that size.

Thanks Lawrie for the catch on the Audio Card....DUH!!!
See why I need Help?

Maybe that's why I flunked out of Bomb Disposal School.
Always cutting the wrong wire.

I found the original invoice and it says its a 128MB PCI Express x16 ATI Radeon X300SE video card. (DVI/VGA/Video Out)
Also saw something about an Intel Pro 1000 Integrated PCI NIC Card if that means anything.
Thanks again for all the good info gang.
