I have to ask.

In BAIB you can nudge the tempo up and down and the realtracks follow. Within reason.

Realband - they don't.

I suspect this is because RB calls out to BAIB to generate it's audio version of the realtracks. They aren't really "realtracks" - just generated audio.

Is this still the case in 2012?

In RealBand (at least in 2011 and 2012), if you click on the tempo, there are a couple of checkboxes in the dialog box that pops up.

  • Stretch Audio
  • Adjust all Tempos Proportionately

If those are checked, you shouldn't have any problems with existing audio tracks (or MIDI for that matter). They will adjust to the tempo accordingly and keep the same pitch as before.

No go in 2011, so I don't think we're talking the same thing.
Adjusting the tempo on the fly while playing.
You can do this in BAIB

There is a tempo map in RB. You can insert a new tempo anywhere in your song. The RT's *should* follow the tempo map. Clicking the tempo button in real time will not follow a tempo change, it has to be inserted first via tempo button.

Okay, in RB, you can't adjust tempo while the song is playing (are you trying to do accelerandos or decelerandos?). But I know in 2012 (and I believe in 2011.5 - don't know aobut 2011), you can change the tempo of the whole song by setting a new tempo.

If you want to do what Trax suggested, you'll have to re-generate Realtracks after setting the new tempo, as just inserting a change at a point will only adjust the MIDI tracks, not the audio tracks (at least in my quick testing, it didn't).

If you click on the Tempo and check the two boxes, any change to the TEMPO will result in ALL Audio tracks being resampled. Midi tracks will respond to the tempo changes automatically. If the TEMPO stretch is too much and the results poor, then the Audio Tracks will need to be re-recorded or, if RT/RDs, reprocessed.
