I am using BIAB for Mac, and am looking for a simple notation software, that can do Tabs and guitar chord diagrams. I've checked the ubiquitous contenders, Sibelius and Finale. Their full versions do seem to be more than I need right now although I can get student pricing (am presently very unlikely to write any orchestral arrangements). Both have a couple of simplified versions and both show an impressive list of endorsers.

I would appreciate any comment/feedback on these, or pointers to alternatives.

Thanks

Here's a good one.

They have a demo, but it's very limited in it's functionality.

And don't expect a lot in terms of tech support if English is your thang!

.
Forgive me if this is too obvious, but have you explored all the TAB options in BiaB? In teh notation window, click on OPT and try all the options for TAB. Then go to the PRINT button and do the same.

I dont do TAB, but I do a lot of notation printing with BiaB. It is often all I need.

Cemil,

This topic was actually covered in depth in July of this year.

http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=324309&page=0&fpart=all&vc=1

It's only 4 pages and covers a lot of detail and options. I'd recommend reading the whole thing.

JMHO, but don't let anyone convince you to use BIAB for Tab and standard notation.

I'm with Bob on this one.

BIAB provides notation, but it is NOT a notation program. It's provided as a convenience to the user and it can get you out of a pinch (and that's a good thing). But asking BIAB to created the kind of notation that dedicated notation applications provide is like asking Finale or Sibelius to automatically generate full band accompaniments for you.

I've used BIAB notation in the past and it met the need; however, for the printed score I always go to a dedicated application

I'm finding the free program MuseScore to be very nice, but the current stable version doesn't have tabulature. No chord symbols either. But it does have fingering.

The type of notation provided by my notation program is fantastic. But it takes for ever. And I can't print chords unless I put them in by hand, or use a text field to paste them above the line.

So in the end, because I want only a melody and chord, Band in a Box gives me better charts. The missing things I add in with a cylindrical ink resevoir and sporting a custom tip. Depending on the type of addition I use red or blue to make the thing truly eyepopping. My wife then puts the wee commas in for breath marks with a pencil, because she thinks sometimes she should change the breathing pattern.

Aha! I stand corrected. The nightly build of MuseScore (leading eventually towards 2.0) does have both tabulature and chord symbols. It's not considered a stable version yet, but by Django the things are in there.

Thanks all. I've looked at the long thread and have added to my list a couple of software to check , along with Sibelius and Finale.

Btw, BIAB for the Mac does not do Tabs.
