Hi Folks, Season’s greetings to all of you. Here’s hoping that the Lord would guide y’all thru 2012. I have maybe 2 to 3 questions but they’re all related. With the immense popularity and high sales of Android and other non -Apple Tablets such as the Kindle Fire, The Samsung Galaxy etc, I was wondering about the possibility of viruses and Malware on these devices. I am not hearing anything about that possibility. Should tablet users be concerned about Malware, Spyware etc on Tablets? Many people book flights, buy stuff using their credit cards etc via these tablets so I was wondering if I were to purchase one of those Panavision tablets, if It would be advisable for me to install an anti-virus / anti Malware software on it. Would that be a wise thing to do? I am currently waiting to see if the Apple I PAD 3 might be released in March of 2012, and this brings me to question # 2. I have been doing quite of bit of researching, reading up and even demoing (at BEST BUY, OFFICE DEPOT & STAPLES) of many different Tablets. So far the most impressive Android Tablet to me personally is the ASUS EE PAD TRANSFORMER PRIME. This thing is a power house tablet with a powerful NVIDIA® Tegra® 3 Quad Core CPU and great features. Take a look at it by clicking here: http://eee.asus.com/eeepad/transformer-prime/features/I was wondering whether this Asus Ee Pad transformer would be good for a musician / keyboard player/ like myself or should I go the APPLE IPAD ROUTE? Just wanted your feed back if you don’t mind on this ASUS EE PAD TRANSFORMER and if it looks like a good buy. Thanks in advance for answering my 3 questions. I do look forward to your replies.

I tryed a Tablet, don´t like... I prefer the old Windows. What is the advantage of the Android? Or Apple system? To me (old dog?) these devices are not intereting. Maybe in the future, or so. I understand they are very light, portable. Battery lasts a long time. But, what about a 9" Windows netbook?

I own the Ipad2 and really like it but have not done my music on it as of yet. There are a growing number of interfaces & music apps for it. The Alesis IO dock is interesting. As far as Malware goes on the Ipad this is what I seen on Apple support.
(There's no way your colleague could have installed any malware on your iPad unless he jailbroke it. Without jailbreaking, all apps have to come from the iTunes Store. There's no way a keylogger would be possible given how apps work in iOS, much less get past Apple's examination process. So I don't think you need worry. If you're really concerned, though, connect your iPad to your own computer and perform as restore as a new device. That will erase all the content on the iPad and start it afresh.)

Don't buy less than a 10 inch tablet. Unless you are about 20.
Make sure you can pinch and expand the text.
It will be annoying when the text no longer fits and you have to mess around to read something.
take a cheap usb key and have them show you how a jpeg of a full sheet music fake sheet fits on the screen.
I had the idea to make a document where the jpg and the mp3 or other format were married so you have your sheet on the screen and tap the icon to play, then swipe to the next piece. I got it sort of to work and then realized I probably should have bought a better device.
I hate to say this, and some will recoil in amazement coming from me, but the full size ipad is best suited to the task at the moment. A fool proof tablet that is big enough to read, thin, and has good battery life with an interface that allows email and netsurfing is all most seniors (ie me) want.

I have a Samsung Galaxy 10.1. It has thousands of lead sheets in it, all of which are easily accessible and easy to read. It's worth it to purchse "iRealb". There are 1200 tunes in it, no melodies, just changes. It also has a basic rhythm section to play along with for practice. Later, Ray

I have a Kindle Fire with no thoughts of using it for any music applications. We bought it for traveling entertainment and email. We also have a asus netbook which we used for travelling in the past. It might serve the purpose for a setup, but we have never used a laptop for our gigs. We just use an mp3 player-actually a tascam voice trainer. Personally, I don't like to input on the small touch tablet screen. I have to use a stylus just for minimal stuff. Our netbook was $275 at Best Buy. That was probably not the best deal around but cheaper than $500 for an ipad.
