I am a MAC user and have used both BIAB for PC (now some years ago) and for MAC. I am working in rural France on a fascinating project. I am loading about 1000 tunes of thé American Songbook of the 20's to 50's in BIAB files. I want to use those when playing on stage and was delighted to see an APPS for my iPad for Band-In -a-Box . What disappointment when I found out this only works with Windows. I hope the MAC version will follow shortly, it would be so useful for me.

By thé way, somebody pointer out in thé discussion on MAC versus PC that MAC only has 10 percent of thé market. That may well be thé case if one includes business computers but if one looks at thé creative field, including music, there are many more Mac's around and now that we have our iPad's thé issue becomes even more important.
More attention to MAC users please, there are so many in France!

I just don't get the people who THINK that Mac is going to make money for a company that knows what their sales are like in both areas.

Zut.

John - your staunch defence of BIAB for Windows is admirable, but your argument as quoted above holds no water at all as long as PGMusic actually DO write and sell a Mac version.

There is no logic whatsoever in saying that they don't have sufficient market to add this feature or that to the Mac version, yet there is obviously sufficient market to be bothered writing the basic Mac version to start with....

And if, as your quoted reply suggests, the Mac version sales are not sufficient to be worth devoting time and energy on, has it occurred to you that the very reason that it may be so is precisely BECAUSE the Mac version is lacking quite a few of the features that are in the Windows version?

And given that they charge the same price for BOTH versions, then I'd suggest that they should give users the same feature set in both versions. Or drop the price of the Mac version and call it BIAB Lite, or something.

It should really be all or none - if the Mac market is worth the trouble of writing the Mac version, then it is also worth the trouble of completing the feature set to make it on par with the Windows version.

You can't keep on trying to defend the lack of features in the Mac version on the basis that the Mac market is not big enough - there is no logic in that at all.

A small market for something is a plenty good argument for a higher price. You have to put X number of resources into a project and then make that money back plus a reasonable profit. The smaller the market is to sell to, the higher the price each widget has to be to turn that profit. I guess you are arguing that if PG is making a profit on the windows side of that house that they should take a loss on the MAC side?

As long as we're not working for PG Music, we have no idea what the Mac vs PC sales are, what the relative costs and profit margins are either - so as far as I am concerned, this argumentation will not get anywhere. What is clear, is that at some point in the past, PGMusic thought developing/porting the software for the Mac would be financially interesting. Whether their projections were realized or exceeded, we don't know.

PG Music's argument is that although there are some features in the Windows version that do not exist in the Mac version, Mac users have some advantages in other places (there are a few posts on the site with this argument), so in their view, the two products are generally balanced.

I moved from a PC to a Mac (2009 was the first one) version, as I have moved platforms. I love BIAB and think it is a fantastic program. I would be happier if new versions incorporate some of the items that people keep asking for and which are already present in the PC versions. It seems the wish list is not really (or no longer) taken into consideration. I've upgraded to 2012 (yet to arrive), but thought long and hard about it. Personally, I have no need for the new guitar sounds/effects (the licensed bit from IK); I finally went for it for the real tracks and basically to generally update the program. Although my take on the guitar sounds may not be typical, I've not seen a request for this on the boards (perhaps I have missed it) or maybe PG Music got inundated with emails requesting that feature. On the whole, 2012 looks to have little actually updated, with the main difference from the previous year being licensed from outside. Keep in mind that I've yet to use it and basing this on the PG descriptions of what's new.

@John: You are a great contributor to the forums, always willing and happy to help everyone out. However, the constant Mac bashing is pointless and counterproductive. It would be nice if we just could concentrate on this great product, with positive inputs, instead of bashing platforms, equipment or whatever else. I hope you don't mind me pointing this out and I hope I am not out of line.
