I am in the process of rationalising my computer hardware retention. It is "either that rubbish goes of else" situation. I find that I have a SB Audigy Soundcard, which performed excellently in my previous DAW, spare and wonder whether or not I could install it in my newish DAW to work alongside the existing SB XFi card???

Any help or information would be appreciated.

I have three hardware "sound devices" currently installed:
1) PCI Card Audiophile 192 - which is my goto device
1) Voicelive Touch USB - which I either use seperately or together with the PCI card
3) The intenal sound which came with the Dell computer.

When I try to get trickly with routing and setting adjustments between all three devices I just ultimatley get confused. So, very early on I fully disabled the interal sound card. And for recording work I more often than not disconnect the VLT USB and use the VLT as an input to the Audiophile via audio cables, so in fact only the Audiophile is on-line. For me it is a matter of keeping it simple so I can focus on the music not the machine. Your milage may vary!

Send a PM to silvertones. I believe he has done this with side-by-side PCI soundblaster cards and can probably get you going with the KX drivers, which will be necessary to make use of all the channels of i/o.

What I'm using is a laptop with an Audigy 2 ZS Notebook card & KX drivers, the internal card to drive my harmonizer & an IKM Stealth ASIO only audio interface for my bass/guitar.The A2ZSNB is a 7.1 card so with KX I get 8 outs using WDM drivers.
BTW KX does not support the X-Fi card

John, sorry about that. There was someone here on PG forums that was running side-by-side Creative PCI cards and making use of them simultaneously somehow. I wish I could remember who it was. That was many moons ago for my FIFO brain.

I bought a new DAW in May 2011 and had a SB XFi Titanium Board installed. I didn't get satisfactory result before a series of family illnesses stopped all music activities. I am now back in reasonable shape and I have started to look again at what the problems are. So far it looks as though recording is the problem with artifacts being recorded which cannot be heard during the record process. There is some improvement using the ASIO drivers. I have tested the onboard RealTec soundcard and this seems to be affected the same way. I know that the SB Audigy 2 card in my old DAW worked without a hitch for some years and I think I will install it in my new DAW and see what happens.

Another source of disquiet is the Amp/Speaker setup which I suspect has a loose connection somewhere.

The twin cards idea was a red herring. The old card did not fit the PCI slots in my new computer so I have continued exploring the SB XFi card. After much testing of hardware and various software programs, I have returned to my old suspicions the Creative In Driver "What You Hear".

At Sample Rate 44.1K, recorded tracks crackle and pop and are unusable - no adjustments in the RD Audio Panel helped. At 48K, the results were better and finally at 96K, the results were good using Default RB Audio Settings.

I remain suspicious until I have finished the current song.
