I am still trying to get BB 2012 with VST/DXi Synth to output chords to my Voice Works, which will accept chord information in MIDI only. Have been in contact with “support”, where I the following answer:
In Band-in-a-Box when you select to "Use VST/DXi Synth" the MIDI drivers listed under "MIDI Output Driver" are no longer an option. It is one or the other. What you can try is making sure "Route MIDI Thru to MIDI Driver" is selected and then select the UM-ONE as your output driver. This will allow the MIDI THru channel to be output to the UM-ONE.
I have taken my question up in the Users Forum, where member Carlos E Arrelano claims that using an Midi Patcher 8 x 8 routing 360 Systems will probably solve my problems.
Does anyone else find any solution(s)?

are you open to using Real Band instead of BIAB? Both programs can open the BIAB files, but RB has multiple MIDI ports available. Youcan can send one port to hardware devices such as the voiceworks and another port ta hard synth or redirected to soft synths

I have a voicelive working and Patt Marr here helped me with that.
I changed the settings Opts Prefs OutputCh and used Midi channel 5, with the Soloist track as Midi 5 also, and output triads from Band in a Box through the Uno, then through my midi Ketron, then to the Voicelive. This works fine.
If I want preset 33 on my voicelive, I enter via F5 at the bar I want to change to preset 33 just a patch 33, or say 25 which is Nylon Guitar. As long as your midi channel is right on the Soloist track putting the patch number like 1 for piano or 25 for guitar will change the voicelive on the fly as you perform so you can be a trio or solo.
I can tell you this works perfectly, and that is with the last 3 versions of band in a box or maybe 4.

Absolutely confirmed, been there - done that, it is one or the other.

Have no idea what this is,"UM-ONE"??

Well Carlos is an expert at this - but I have no idea what a "Midi Patcher 8x8 routing 360 System" is. Is someone making this stuff up.

John [aka silvertone] had a way of placing multiple midi tracks on the soloist or the melody track which are multitrack channels and then directing that to an external vocal synth - but it was really complicated??. Then he came up with a very simple solution - instead of sending midi to your Vocal Processor, send the full audio as an Aux In (I assume th4 Voice Works can set Harmony based on both Midi and Audio?). Actually worked very nice on my VLT.

Thanks for all the answers so far! First of all about the M-Audio Uno, a hardware product sold a.o. by PG Music. For more info please check: www.pgmusic.com/maudiouno.htmPat, if you’re sure Real Band can solve my problems I will, in spite of the expected learning curve, try this. Is there any hardware I need to use both soft synths and output MIDI at same time? John, I usually use the Soloist track, for writing musical back ground. I use the Voice Works mainly to sing “Four Freshmen” style, using the Melody track for intros and some background and as a memory aid for both the melody and lyrics. So I hate to see the Soloist track go. Moreover you are using the Ketron which is a sound module, so you probably are not using one or more soft synths. Jazzmandan, the Voice Works can only receive chord information via Midi. If there are any more tips, especially from anyone who is also using any type of “vocalist” please do not hesitate to give me your comment and tips! Tonnie

One more workaround: Since you can't use both the "OutputChords" to drive the VoiceWorks and also the Dxi syth, then you can first render the Dxi to a wave file, name the wav file the save as the BIAB file and place it in the same directory - it will now automatically play on the Audio Track. Now disable the Dxi and that will do it for you.
There is a hugh thread from last fall which details workarounds (some good some not so good). Let me see if I can find a link for you.
Here is one of a couple threads on the topic from last year: http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/showflat.p...true#Post333043
While I carried the torch for a period, it was really started by John way back when:

Tonnie, your setup is very similar to mine, so if I can get something to work, I'll pass it on to you. So far I have answered without testing muy theories. Later this week, I'll go into serious research mode to see what is possible with both BIAB abd RB
For my own use so far, I've had the best luck with RealBand and a midisport 2x2 port interface.
That way I can send all MUSIC data through one port to the synths, and all COMMAND data out the 2nd port to external devices that can use NIDI control.
I'll post a step-by-step later, but it won't be until the weekend. We have out of town company at present, and for some reason they think its rude if I disappear for hours after they travelled long distance to visit

Pat,
Have been away for a week, but did not (yet) find an answer to my Output Chords question. Any news?

Can't find an answer, or don't like the answer you got . BIAB will not send midi chords to both an external and Dxi synth at the same time. The option suggested by support using the MIDI through is only applicable if you are playing the chords yourself on a keyboard - in which case it would be better to simply go direct to the voiceworks.
