Hi All!

I'm trying to "jump start" some creative juices in hopes to compose some original tunes, and I believe that BIAB has the ability to help me with this.

I need to know if BIAB can create melodies that I can use as a starting point for any chord changes that I enter.

Is this true??

I also thought I read that BIAB can create "chord changes" (songs) as well for me to edit or use as a starting point for an original tune.

Is this true as well?

If the above is possible in BIAB, could someone give me direction as to where I could learn how to accomplish what I'm trying to do here?

This would be gratly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Harpo

Click on the Melodist button on the toolbar and look at the different options. BIAB can create both a chord progression and a melody based on that chord progression.

I like the Soundtrack even better for this. You can specify the style of the tune you're looking for plus other things and it creates a whole new piece with melody, an intro, ending, and middle sections and will even name it for you if you want. You're not entering anything, simply selecting the parameters. Pretty cool. Plus whatever is created is yours, you can copywrite it but for me at least I'll use it at a start and do some edits before I call it finished. This is not new for 2012 btw it was introduced with the first Real Tracks I think.

Harpo,

If you haven't used this forum yet, check it out.
All kinds of music by members, also how it was put together
and their results. Some members, including myself to use
the Melodist and Soloist.
http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/postlist.php?Cat=0&Board=usershowcase&page=0

BTW, in 1962 compliments of the military I went to school
at M.I.T. At the time we stayed in the "back-water" area.

Then again in 1964, stayed at a "Psycho Style" boarding house
in Bedford and went to school there for 6 weeks. This was some
wild times, before got married.

Also on the User Showcase forum you can learn a lot from the folks about
mixing, just by listening to their presentations. This was the most
valuable single tool for me. They are BIAB folks using BIAB tools
to create their music.

Good luck!

Hi Harpo, just checking in to see if you've had any luck?

I've been experimenting with BIAB as my uncle has it, and we're mainly into country (old, classic stuff from the 50s/60s/70s) and we have no idea how to use the Melodist to generate melodies over chord progressions we specify, to make them sound remotely like "vocals"... they're always too busy and weird... I wish there was a way to constrain the rhythms to basic half notes, quarter notes, eighths, and dotted variations of each. Is this possible?

Not a lot of info about the Melodist or generating melodies available on this forum (at least form my research thus far!)

When I was first getting started with BB I used the melodist a lot to create songs.

This is one I did in that way back in 2009>> http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=8043230 I am playing the lead guitars, everything else was BB

I probably did some editing of the chords as well.

Melodist works well on certain kinds of music.... jazz being one of them.

I don't think it works well for trying to create melodies over specific chord progressions, at least not something useable.
