Yet another problem with 2012 - my last one has never been solved so I can now only use it with MME. Now my MIDI playback has suddenly stopped. I can hear the MIDI instrument directly, it records onto the track but in playback, whilst I can see the MIDI notes and the meters activate there is no sound. I had CoyoteWT checked as my default synth and have found that if I uncheck it and choose my Creative Soundblaster as the output driver it plays back, however MIDI to wav render does not work in either that mode or with re-route to default synth re-checked. I've tried the things suggested in the FAQ page, reset factory settings etc., with no success. Any ideas please?

Irrespective of the other settings, select the track and then click on the DXi button on the toolbar. In the dialogue box, make sure Coyote WT is selected for that track and that there is an instrument listed for the midi channel the track is using. Then right click on that instrument and select LIMIT POLYPHONY to make sure you have enough notes available.
If this is all as it should be, get back to us and we'll think what else it might be.

Next thing is to try re-registering the Coyote WT.
Once again, click the DXi button on the toolbar and select OPTIONS-REGISTER A NEW DX PLUGIN. Coyote is usually placed in the PROGRAM FILES folder on the C drive. You may need to change the file type to dll in order to see the plugin.

Godfrey - have you checked out the Sound and Audio Device Properties - Audio Tab - under Control Panel - just to make sure they're set correctly - then reboot the machine if you've made corrections. Cheers - Ian

Hi Ian - thanks for your reply. I've checked and all seems to be OK under Audio Tab. The MIDI playback selected in there is my soundcard - CoyoteWT does not appear as an option. I think this is how it has always been set up.

In MIDI Driver window Slect MS Wavetable in the top box, put a check in the "Reroue all MIDI to deafult synth" box, then select the Coyote WT as the default MIDI synth.
If this does not work, maybe your operating system does not contain the wavetable itself (supplied by windows) This can often be solved by updating Windows Media Player. This is usually no fun.
To test, select the MS Wavetable synth and deselect the "Reroue all MIDI to deafult synth" box. Then you should hear the standard windows synth. If this works, and Coyote WT doesn't, I'd suggest re-installing Coyote WT.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Thank you rharv. Followed your suggestions - the last thing applies, nothing when Coyoye is checked but sounds from MS wavetable (or my soundcard synth if selected) when Coyote unchecked. Therefore need to try your suggestion of re-installing Coyote WT but can you tell me where to re-install it from please? Cheers Godfrey

Run the install disk, and look at each window. At one point you can uncheck everything but the CoyoteWT install and just install that. At least it does on the copy I have hooked to this machine.

Thanks again rharv Did that and again, no improvement. Then tried un-installing and re-installing PT as a whole, again no change. ??

Godfrey.
When you uninstalled PT, did you separately uninstall Coyote? Also, when you uninstall PT, some folders are left on the system, so it's a good idea to delete these manually. The PT folder is usually left on the C drive and Coyote is left in PROGRAM FILES.
As a last resort, I suggest a complete cleaning of all traces of PT, plus the PG plugins and Coyote. If a new install still doesn't work, something has changed within the computer.
If you've already done this as I described, just ignore me!

As a thought - can you ask PGMusic for a FULL copy of PT 2012, not the upgrade version. Then transfer all working folders from your current file location and store elsewhere - remove all traces of PowerTracks and install PowerTracks as new. All my development files are kept separately on an external drive with a further back up elsewhere.

LynB.
Actually. Lynn, I think the upgrade disc is exactly the same as the full version. Certainly you can do a first install from it! Best keep it quiet though. (Oops, too late.)
Seriously, I think the price difference just reflects the lack of a printed manual.

Well - thank you - some progress but not quite the complete fix yet. I purchased the 2012 update via download but it does seem to be the full version. Didn't realise that so much was left on the system after uninstalling so did exactly as you suggested and went through deleting everything and re-installed from the downloaded file. Amazingly, the big problem I had with ASIO seems to have been cured (although I hesitate to celebrate too soon) but the problem with CoyoteWT is still there. It just stopped playing back a few days ago whilst I was using the program. Just to reiterate, I can get a sound direct from the MIDI instrument and it records. In playback I can see the MIDI notes in the track and the track VU activate but there is no sound when the re-route to default synth box is checked. I'm not aware that I did anything different. Could it possibly be due to a windows update or something? Would it be worth trying a system restore to a week or so ago? Any further suggestions gratefully received. Thanks again for the help so far. Godfrey

Do you have sound if you select the Microsoft GS Wavetable as your MIDI output driver? (not using any DXi synth).

OK, latest discovery - seems as though you (rharv, ROG and LynB) have succeeded in helping me to fix this for which I am very grateful. What I've now discovered is that whilst Coyote is still not working with existing tracks (only two that matter so no major problem), all seems to be well and working for new tracks. I did a test project of two MIDI tracks using Coyote as default synth. They recorded and played back as they should and they also rendered to .wav files OK. I hope I'm not getting unduly excited too soon, but suddenly, thanks to you, what with the ASIO problem also seemingly solved, I seem to be back in business with PT. It appears that if I were not so technically ignorant and known that you need to still delete stuff after uninstalling, all these weeks of anquish could have been avoided. Thank you so much - just hope it really is all OK and I don't have to appeal for your help again. Godfrey

Check the port selection for those two tracks by right-clicking under the track name Something is making them go somewhere else most likely..

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
