BIAB 2012. 11.5 Everything Pack. Sonar 8.5, SB Audigy card,Intel Celeron E3400 @2.60Ghz, RAM2gb,Windows XP Pro SP3

Hi Everyone, A few months ago my PC had the mobo & Hard drive replaced. Prior to that, my BIAB & Sonar seemed to work together well,..... since then, I posted about latency problems, which have worsened.
I normally import RealTracks....Bass/Drums/Guitar/Piano,sometimes Mandolin/Harmonica. I then do live Guitar, Banjo, Vocals, Harmony.
Now, when I try to record ANY live track.....Crackling in the cans starts about bar 80 then worsens. And playback is out of sync. I can't use the metronome to record.......but it's OK on playback, as is the sync.
On the advice of "guru" who usually can sort things........I changed the tracks to Mono....made a global Audio change to 16 bit depth for everything....buffer is at max 340.....created a bus for effects and pointed tracks to it, ......still can't record! I know a previous suggestion was that the Audigy card wasn't capable.......but before the mobo was replaced it seemed to cope...and at that time I had plug-ins on several tracks, and all the Real Tracks were in Stereo! Can anyone assist....or do I definitely need a new card?.....or AM I missing something I should be doing? Joe G.

Are you using asio drivers ? How old's the soundcard ? 2gb ram sounds a bit small to me might be worth upgrading to 4gb

Joe,

I agree with furry. It sounds like you are using ASIO. Have you tried ASIO4ALL? I have an AUDIGY external soundcard and it works fine. One thing I did find though, was that the Creative ASIO driver was not good. ASIO4ALL works excellently.

Regards,
Noel

Hi Noel & Furry, No. I'm using WDM(MME)......I was told that was best for the card? Thanks, Joe G.

Joe,

I have Sonar Home Studio 7 and I have a choice between WDM/KS and MME (two distinct options). Mine is set to WDM/KS. Just check under Audio options if the "Share Drivers with Other Programs" is active. If it is, turn this off, exit Sonar and restart it for the changes to take effect.

Another thing you could try is to change to one of the other drivers and restart the program for the changes to lock in. Then, change back to the WDM/KS driver, exit and restart Sonar and see if that "kicks" anything into action.

Another thought ... What sampling rate do you have set? Mine is 44100 (i.e. CD quality).

Lastly, have a look at "Mixing latency buffer size" (NOT the "I/O buffer size"). If this is set to too small a time, it can cause issues. I have mine set at 100 milliseconds.

Hope these thoughts help,
Noel

Joe,

Your later version might vary in regard to this. For me it's found under the "General" tab in Audio Options. (See image below)

Hi Noel, Good news (I hope!) I managed to change the driver mode to MMME.......let it run through the checks, and it seemed to be OK...........I rebooted and then reinstalled the drivers only from the Creative CD. I've checked and it seems to be working with the buffer that set itself at 300. No crackles...so far! I've recorded a test vocal, and it points to the reverb bus OK. I hope this time it lasts! Thanks, Joe G.
