How do I turn on the sound of the notation mode editing as I'm moving from note to note?

Not sure what you mean by "moving from note to note". If you mean by holding ctrl-arrow, it plays for me. If I mute the track, it doesn't.

Hello,
These are played automatically with the MIDI Output driver, even if you have a DXi Synth enabled, so if this is checked and you're not hearing them, please check your MIDI Output Driver (and associated volume in the mixer if in Windows XP), try setting it to GS Wavetable for example.

You have to be using ASIO for it to work.

I should add to what John said to give the complete picture.
If you're using ASIO (with ASIO Always On checked), Using Ctrl+arrows in the notation window will actually use your DXi Synth if you have one enabled instead of your MIDI Output Driver. If you're using ASIO without ASIO Always On checked or MME, Band in a Box will use your MIDI Output Driver instead (when the song is not playing).
It will work with MME if your MIDI Output Driver is working, it's working fine with MME on my system.

You don't by any chance mean the 'scrub mode'. The help file gets you to second base here.

The correct answer was...
drum roll...
enter "Microsoft GS Wavetable" in the synthesizer/sound card field in the Preferences/MIDI Driver tab.
