That is a nice Rainbow! Much bigger than the ones I'm used to picking up in Georgia. What'd you catching him on?

Thankeee.....
Mepps spinners . Yellow and red....I'd never had such luck as that day with spinners .
My normal trout fishing in new Mexico was fly fishin ...never caught anything like that in the Pecos, but they're that big in the San Juan's quality waters . Really fun
I live in Virginia now ,really miss those Rockies .

I got a good response recently to a simple chrome spoon on Lake Allatoona, known locally as "The Dead Sea" because it was clear-cut before they flooded it. No habitat, so the fish are always moving. Bright sunny day, shallow water, basically everything wrong, but the bass kept hitting it. It Is What It Is.

Ryzard, glad to hear someone had some luck up on Alla-tuner. During my years in Kennesaw, I spent countless hours from Stamp Creek, to Blanket Creek, up to the Etowah huntin those 'ol Spots. Got a few, but must admit, it was more work than fun. Too bad the DNR doesn't take more time and better manage that resource, it has great potential. If you get a chance, head up to Selman Lakes (also called the Rocky Mountain fishing area) off Big Texas Valley Rd near Summerville, GA. Of the three lakes there, the smaller one to the west called Heath Lake is highly managed and only open to fishing the first 10 days of each month. They're rasing some real beauties there!

I'm pretty sure I'd have to get a smaller boat. The best lakes in Georgia these days are power limited. Nice problem to have, I suppose. Thanks for the tip. I've done some reading, but I don't believe I've heard of that resource.
The 'big water' around here is a little scary sometimes what with the drunken idiots and all. So far I've stayed off of Lanier entirely. I began by putting in at Holiday Harbor marina, but lately have been using a very nice public ramp on the Little River.
I actually tore myself up fishing that day. Had extreme shoulder pain. I was eventually diagnosed with rotator cuff tendinitis, a partial labral tear, ulnar neuropathy, and carpal tunnel (not all caused by the fishing, just found incidentally on the shoulder exam). I'm almost afraid to go back out. I'm nearly ambidextrous, though, so I suppose I could cast left handed.

Nice rainbow! Mepps are an old standby. Have you ever tried Panther Martins? Killer spinners! Ryszard - don't you know? You need a big boat for the big water, a small boat for the restricted lakes, and a good canoe for the streams. You need MORE BOATS!!!! Regards, Bob

Wow - looks like a lunker compared to what few fish I've reeled in here in CO. There are places where they do grow that big (like downstream from the Lake Dillon reservoir), but I have no idea how to catch them - they love the real shrimp-like stuff that comes out of the bottom of the lake and get fat on them.
On one of my most frightening days I caught a rainbow about that big on the Huron River back in MI. It was opening day of catch and release (think very cold thoughts) and I slipped and fell in and my waders filled with ice-cold water. I was in 7th grade fishing with my buddy Tim. It was wall to wall fishermen so I got hauled out but we were quite a ways from the car and I got very cold!
Anyway, I never tried fishing that way again. Largemouth bass from that point forward until I moved out here to CO. I've taken up fly fishing and one of my other fishing buddies from my youth - whom I could out-fish in any lake or creek in MI, now hauls in the little brookies, browns and cutthroats while I strain to get the leader through the eye of the hook! He moved out here about 10 years before me. They are on evacuation notice right now due to the Waldo Canyon fire. I got to enjoy 3 years of an incredible vista on my drive in to work each day. It's now charred black. 346 families have lost their homes, most in a single 1 hour firestorm that was hellish. Several friends from work escaped just in time.
Anyways, back to the fish - that's a beauty!

Nymphing. SW corner of CO has the San Juan river coming out of the Navaho reservoir. Top mile or 2 are quality waters w/ 21 inch minimums...and they're so plentiful that people catch & release em (one a day) cuz its so fun.
Give it a go....
Incidentally, I prefer the surface fly fishing even though the San Juan is nymph-land and I've had great luck.

Nice looking rainbow there! I Just got back from a 3 day stay at my fishing camp below New Orleans myself. Fished the saltwater/brackish marsh for Specs and Reds with not much luck this trip but it was great to be on the water anyway. For my neck of the woods the fall season not only brings the cooler weather but also brings the big specs into the marsh. They have a 25 per person limit and more often than not we are back at the camp by 9:00 AM with our limit. If you fellow fishermen are interested I'll post some pics later? PS: For you forum rule purist very often my best music arrangements pop into my head while I am fishing. Later,
