Now stuck on trying to change the volume of a Drum track that is Midi info and sent to a external Drum machine. I would like to adjust the volume for different songs and be able to save it with in the song.. Tried the right click change volume seems to work as long as the internal computer Synth is used but seem to have no effect on the midi sent to the drum machine. Then only way I have to change it now is to use the Piano Role editor on the drum track and change the Midi volume on note a time. Good for a random measure but a whole song yuk...
Thanks

Hi Roger,

It sounds like your drum machine doesn't respond to MIDI volume commands (not too surprising). The closest thing to a work-around I could think of is to highlight your entire drum track, and hit the Edit menu, then Change Velocities. It's not the best way to control volume, but should work.

Another option would be to record the output of your drum machine onto an audio track in RealBand, and adjust the volume of that track.

Thanks
Kent

MIDI Event list; you can Insert a Control Change for controller #7 (volume change) at the beginning of song, or anywhere in song to change the volume of the MIDI channel send.

It is the 'E' icon at top, or highlite MIDI track and hit F2.
Remember though, that once set, the synth remembers the new volume setting until you tell it to change again.

0 = volume off
127 = volume max
make sure Control Change is on correct MIDI channel (usually 10 for drums)

So-
Insert
Control Change
MIDI Channel = 10
Control Change = #7
Parameter = 0 thru 127

I think Kent hit it. Tried another synth and it work with the volume sliders, I figure that the Boss dr3 don't read the volume changes. Thanks for the quick replays. This forum has been a God send in trying to figure out some of my quirky issues.

I type too slow.
I respect Kents input, but I'd probably still try the hard write method I described.
Just to check the dr3
Very rare that a Boss/Roland product didn't accept this.

Again Hummmm
The band stuff (Boss dr3) is not here at the house, so I will try it when I get the chance and let you all know. I was able to edit all Midi note volume with the select all and replace command, worked better then I hope but still nice to make 1 entry and get it done, much easer. We are playing the County Fair this weekend and it will be the first time with the RB drums I hope there are no surprises.

OK checked the Boss to make sure, sent it the volume changes as a event edit and nothing happened, so looks the Boss does not respond to Volume changes.
Thanks to all

The next option is to use the Edit menu and change velocities
This can be done by a percentage .. so you can reduce the volume (usually) by using this method.
The trade-off is that velocity often determines which 'sample' is used, so sometimes using this method can cause a "hard snare hit" timbre (that has been reduced in volume by other controls) to become a "Regular Snare Hit" with volume changess ..

sometimes it works OK sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes it depends on how finicky you are about the drum part

/often there are more involved ways to overcome both problems, but much more involved

rharv's method has always been successful for me---once I figured it out. I had tried to change using the track setting in Biab and sliders in RB. I tried using the mixer in biab and I tried adjust melody vol in biab. The one sure way to make the changes is in the Events List. Also you will see that there can be a CC7 put in by someone else that might not be what you want. If I decide to change the volume, I delete the CC7's and put my own in.
