I want to start my track off with the bass playing a single note that starts high, then "slides" down the fingerboard.....I think that, on the bass, that would be called a glissando, or maybe just a "slide"...is there any way to do this in RB?

Hi Tano, I reckon you can but I can't give you the full details: there's a "View/Edit" in the piano roll window. It has a drop-down menu whose last item is "Pitch control". In it's standard form it only gives you a tone up or down, but I'm sure that some time ago I came across an article on Midi controllers somewhere on the PG site that talked about varying controller parameters such that bigger bends (much bigger, I think but not certain) are possible. That exhausts my relevant information (and memory) so you'll need a better guide than me to get you to that article or other useful stuff. Good luck!

I'm assuming you're talking midi bass. If it's audio, can't do it.
Go to the piano roll window with your bass track highlighted. Select pitch as the controller and you can draw in your gliss in the bottom half of the window for as short or as long a time as you want. It's a little confusing in there, click on Help in the piano roll window itself.

The default Pitch Bend range on the majority of Midi Synths is +/- two semitones. In those synths that use the standard Midi coding, this range can be expanded by entering the following codes into the Event List for the appropriate track.
101 value Zero 100 value Zero 6 Value 2.........the 2 stands for +/- 2 semitones - Maximum is +/- 24 semitones. 101 Value 127 100 Value 127
Pitch Bend is divided into +/- 0 to 8191 sections - thus in default mode each semitone equals 4096. Changing the Range to +/- 24 would make 4096 equal an octave. In the Piano Roll start from the zero center position and draw a line to the point 4096 where you want the effect to end. You will need to experiment because sometimes you can get weird effects. This method can also be used to try and emulate a musician playing a succession of notes without triggering repeated attacks.
