Hello.. Trying to generate a Midi Drum track in mono which I can pan to the right OR left channel. Running drums through separate PA system for different effect from Keyboard. Keyboard or MIDI thru to be PA'ed different. As is now generated midi drum track is across both channels and stereo. If I pan R or L lose some drum information. Maybe there is a way, make an existing stereo track to Mono to be able to pan and still get all drum info. My goal is to split drums and keyboard to Right and Left channels using differnt PA channels.
tks

Hi.

The MIDI track is just note information and is neither stereo nor mono. The stereo is generated by the drum panning in the VSTi, or synth.

One way in which you can get round this is to convert the MIDI track to audio by right clicking on the track in the TRACKS window and selecting AUTO CONVERT INDIVIDUAL MIDI TRACK TO AUDIO TRACK from the menu. You now have a stereo audio track which you need to select and then go to TRACK - SPLIT A STEREO TRACK INTO TWO MONO TRACKS. Now cut one of the tracks and paste it over the other one using the paste command MERGE WITH EXISTING DATA. This leaves you with a mono audio track containing all the drum sounds which can be panned hard left or right.

It sounds complicated, but it only takes a minute to do when you are familiar with the routine. Maybe someone else has a more elegant solution, but I can't think of any other method.

Hope this helps.

ROG.

Either render to audio track and then merge the result to mono,
or edit the synth actually playing the drums to be panned mono (more difficult if you don't understand synths or are using one that makes this complicated or impossible)
Or use a 'Y' cable on the output of the drum synth befoe the mixer (if separate from the keycoard)

Lotsa options, but without knowing more details about setup we can't really help you choose the best option.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

OK That opens up a lot of Ideas... Understanding the Synths generate the sounds and not the RB program. I can see the PAN options in the DXI synths configuration.

Referring to ROG's idea of using AUTO CONVERT INDIVIDUAL MIDI TRACK TO AUDIO TRACK, you may find it more convenient to Convert using the "Audio File" option. This option renders to a file outside of the Seq song file (I use an overall folder in the song name which contains all the various data files used). This can then be opened in your Seq file using Audio > Import Wave File. As this is being imported you are offered a number of options to load stereo, mono or stereo opened to left and right tracks separately. This is quite a fast process and you retain the original track elsewhere for further use if necessary.
