I using a style that has a 12/8 time signature. I'm no music theory expert, but I know that this can be counted in 4 via 4 dotted quarter notes per bar. I want to use a song that's in 6/8 time for the melody. Here's my questions:

1. I don't think that I can input the song in 6/8 so I've tried to enter it in 12/8. Will this work, theoretically?

2. Would I also be able to convert the song manually into 4/4 time and have it work also?

There are lots of ties over 2 bars in 6/8.

Thanks for any help

I'm also wondering why PG Music put the 2 march styles they have in 12/8 and 12/16 time rather than in either 2/4 or cut time????

Shastastan,

What's the name of the song. If you could let me know this, it might make it a bit easier for me to address your questions better.

In the meantime ...

When I used the "Filter" with the word 'march' in 2012.5's Style Picker, it gave me the below list.

I've loaded the demo styles, generated them and have had a listen, and to my ears ...

1. March_12 is actually a 6/8 feel even though the melody is designed to be entered in 12/8. You could certainly enter the 6/8 song with this. It's just that one bar of the music would correspond to half a bar of the BIAB style.

2. March_16 is actually a 4/4 march and could potentially be used for a 2/4 or 2/2 march as well.

Regards,
Noel

I believe you can filter by time signature too in 2012.5

Thanks, gents. You have answered my question. I'm not at all happy with the 12/8 time sig that I used in PrintMusic. I'm going to re-do it in 6/8. I'm not using the 12/16 style except for the drums on some bridges. The song in 6/8 is the Semper Fidelis march, but I'm only doing the last 2 sections of it and then with no reps. The next song is Amnerican Patrol in 4/4. I may try the 12/16 for that one.
